Georgetown is an unincorporated community at the junction of Bradley, Hamilton, and Meigs counties, Tennessee. The community is located along State Route 60 near its intersection with State Route 58. The Bradley County portion of Georgetown is part of the Cleveland, TN Metropolitan Statistical Area, while the Hamilton County portion is part of the Chattanooga, TN– GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lands were taken from a small portion of Bradley County and the eastern third of Hamilton County. James County was named in honor of the Rev. Jesse J. James, the father of Elbert Abdiel James, who introduced legislation for the formation of the county. Ooltewah was selected as the county seat. The county went bankrupt in April 1919 and was reincorporated into Hamilton County by a vote of its citizens on December 11, 1919. Wilburn Cartwright
Wilburn Cartwright (January 12, 1892 – March 14, 1979) was a lawyer, educator, U.S. Representative from Oklahoma, and United States Army officer in World War II. The town of Cartwright, Oklahoma is named after him. Early life Born on a farm near Georgetown, Tennessee, Cartwright moved with his parents to the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, in 1903. He attended the public schools at Wapanucka and Ada, Oklahoma, and State Teachers College at Durant, Oklahoma. Early career As an educator he taught in the schools of Coal, Atoka, Bryan, and Pittsburg Counties in Oklahoma from 1914 to 1926. During World War I he served as a private in the Student Army Training Corps in 1917 and 1918. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1917. Greg Vital
Greg Vital (born January 27, 1956) is an American businessman and Republican politician who represents the 29th District in the Tennessee House of Representatives. He was first elected to that seat in a special election on September 14, 2021, replacing the late Mike Carter. The district includes much of eastern Hamilton County, including the Ooltewah and Georgetown communities. Biography Greg Vital has lived in the Ooltewah-Georgetown area since approximately the early 1970s. He received a business degree from Southern Adventist University. State Route 1 (SR 1), known as the Memphis to Bristol Highway, is a mostly-Unsigned highway, unsigned State highway (US), state highway in the U.S. state of Tennessee.
