Georges-Isidore Barthe
Georges-Isidore Barthe (November 16, 1834 – August 11, 1900) was a Quebec lawyer, publisher, journalist, and political figure. He represented Richelieu (electoral district), Richelieu in the House of Commons of Canada as an Independent Conservative from 1870 to 1872 and 1874 to 1878. He was born Isidore Barthe in Restigouche (now Listuguj Mi'gmaq First Nation), Lower Canada, in 1834 and studied at the Séminaire de Nicolet. He articled in law and was called to the bar in 1856. With a partner, he published a newspaper ''Le Bas-Canada'' which advocated an independent Lower Canada; he went on to publish several other newspapers. Barthe was the first secretary-treasurer for Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Trois-Rivières in 1855 to 1857. In 1861, he married Joséphine-Charlotte, the daughter of Jean-Baptiste Meilleur. Joseph-Guillaume Barthe
Joseph-Guillaume Barthe (March 16, 1816 – August 4, 1893) was a lawyer, journalist and political figure in Canada East. He also wrote for the Montreal newspaper Le Populaire under the pseudonym Marie-Louise. Life Barthe was born March 16, 1816 in Carleton-sur-Mer, Carleton, Lower Canada. He attended Séminaire de Nicolet for seven years between 1827 and 1834. Although finishing first year Philosophy at Nicolet, when he returned for the second year he could not successfully complete the philosophy program. Shifting his interests to medicine, he studied under Dr. René-Joseph Kimber. After unsuccessfully studying medicine, Barthe would later study law with Edward Barnard. In 1838, he wrote a poem '; as a result, he was put in jail at Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Trois-Rivières for three months. Louis Huet Massue (November 3, 1828 – June 17, 1891) was a farmer, seigneur and political figure in Quebec. Michel Mathieu (Canadian Politician)
Michel Mathieu, (December 20, 1838 – July 30, 1916) was a Quebec lawyer, notary, judge and political figure. He was a Conservative Member of Parliament who represented Richelieu from 1872 to 1874. He was born in Sorel, Lower Canada in 1838. He articled as a notary, becoming a member of the Sorel Board of Notaries in 1864. In 1865, he was called to the Bar of Quebec and he was appointed sheriff in the Richelieu district in 1866. In 1872, he was elected to the House of Commons; he was defeated in 1874. In 1875, he was elected to the Quebec National Assembly for Richelieu in 1875 and 1878. He also served as mayor of Sorel from 1876 to 1882. In 1881, he resigned his seat in the provincial legislature to serve as judge in the Quebec Superior Court, serving in Joliette and Montreal districts until 1909. Thomas McCarthy (1832 – September 23, 1870) was a businessman and political figure in Canada East, later Quebec, Canada. He was a Conservative Party of Canada (historical), Conservative member of the House of Commons of Canada representing Richelieu (federal electoral district), Richelieu from 1867 to 1870. He was born in County Cork, Ireland in 1832, the son of John McCarthy, and came to Canada in 1839. McCarthy was a shipbuilder in the Sorel, Quebec, Sorel region in partnership with his brothers Daniel and John. He served on the council for Sorel in 1860, 1862, 1863 and 1865. McCarthy died at Sorel in 1870 while still in office.
