George William Stewart
Major George William Stewart (25 September 1793 - 20 April 1841), was the third Postmaster General of Ceylon, serving from 1826 to 1833. Stewart was a lieutenant in the 19th Regiment of Foot, who were stationed in Ceylon between 1796 and 1820, during which time they were involved in the Kandyan Wars. In 1810 he was promoted to captain. He was appointed as the Postmaster General of Ceylon in 1826. During his tenure he was instrumental in extending the postal services to major towns in the colony. He went on to be commissioned in 1830 as a major in the Ceylon Rifle Regiment. After his retirement he became an oil merchant and had a chekku mill, and was known as 'Vanniya Stewart'. On 9 February 1807 Stewart married Maria Wilhelmina Sophia Tranchell (1791-1867), the daughter of Carl Jonas Tranchell (1754-1807), the Consul for Sweden in Ceylon. George Craig Stewart
George Craig Stewart (August 18, 1879 - May 2, 1940) was the seventh bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago from 1930 to 1940. (The sixth Bishop of the Diocese of Chicago, Sheldon Munson Griswold (1861-1930), served for only a few months in 1930.) Biography Stewart was born on August 18, 1879, in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of George Forbes Stewart (1842-1912) and Catherine Craig (1847-1880). He grew up as a Presbyterian but was later ordained as a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church. After joining the Episcopal Church, he studied at Northwestern University and graduated in 1902. He was ordained deacon and priest in 1903 by Charles P. Anderson, Bishop of Chicago. He served as in St Elizabeth's Church in Glencoe, Illinois from 1903 till 1904 when he transferred to St Luke's Church in Evanston, Illinois. George Wilson Stewart
James Wingfield Golucke (1865–1907), often known as J.W. Golucke, was an American architect based in Atlanta, Georgia. He worked alone and also within partnership Golucke & Stewart. On his own he designed about 15 courthouses in Georgia. With partner George Wilson Stewart (1862-1937) he designed five Georgia courthouses and other buildings such as the Fitzpatrick Hotel. with Little is known about Stewart besides that he practiced by himself after 1900, including acting as an assisting architect for the Candler Building during its 1903-1906 construction in Atlanta. George Stewart (tennis)
George Stewart was a Panama-born tennis player. Stewart, a black player, was dominant in the American Tennis Association (ATA) during the 1940s and 1950s, along with Althea Gibson from the women's bracket. A seven-time singles champion, he won his first ATA title in 1947. In 1952 he and Reginald Weir were the first blacks to compete at the U.S. national championships (modern day US Open). A left-handed player, Stewart was a doubles silver medalist for Panama at the 1954 Central American and Caribbean Games The 7th Central American and Caribbean Games were held in Mexico City, the capital city of Mexico. George Stewart (American Football)
George Stewart (born December 29, 1958) is an American football coach who is most recently the assistant head coach and offensive analyst for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). He was a coach in the NFL since 1989 after spending a few years coaching in the college ranks. He spent ten years coaching wide receivers for the Minnesota Vikings. In 2017 he became the assistant head coach and special teams coordinator for the San Diego Chargers. College coaching Stewart began coaching in 1983 as a graduate assistant at Arkansas, working under his former head coach from his playing years at Arkansas, Lou Holtz. Stewart followed Holtz to the University of Minnesota the following year, becoming the team’s offensive line coach.
