George Sprague (Canadian Football)
George Able Sprague (November 30, 1871 – November 8, 1963) was an American businessman and mayor of Dallas from 1935 to 1937. Sprague was born in Preston, Fillmore County, Minnesota, to Isaac Sprague and Anna Jeannette Plummer. He married Minna Schwartz, daughter of Ernest O. Schwartz and Elizabeth Gossman, on December 25, 1900, Preston, Fillmore, Minnesota. They had eight children: George S., Mortimer L., Elizabeth, Wilma, Howard Isaac, John F., Natalie, and Charles Cameron. In Fillmore County, Minnesota, Sprague taught school, operated a general store and was postmaster. As a traveling salesman, he came to Dallas where he eventually settled. He later managed a warehouse. He was active in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas and was active in the Oak Cliff Dads Club. George Sergeant
George William Sergeant (December 2, 1881 – August 26, 1971) was an attorney and mayor of Dallas,Texas from 1932 to 1935. Biography Sergeant was born on December 2, 1881, in Mansfield, Texas, to Gustavis A. Sergeant and Harriet (Hattie) P. Baldwin. He married Mary Marshall Brown, daughter of Dr. Horace M. Brown and Mary Elizabeth Rudd, on August 25, 1909, in Union, West Virginia. They had two children. Their first child, Mary Marshall Sergeant, died in infancy. He attended school in Dallas and graduated from the University of Texas where he also received his law degree. In 1908 he began private practice in Dallas, but was soon appointed city judge. He served in a number of political positions. Woodall Rodgers
James Woodall Rodgers (May 11, 1890 – July 6, 1961) was an American attorney, businessman, and mayor of Dallas, Texas. Rogers was born in New Market, Alabama. He received his B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1912 and his LL.B. from the University of Texas in 1915. He began his law practice in Dallas in 1916, but at the outbreak of World War I, Rodgers joined the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1918 as a major in the artillery. He married his wife, Edna Cristler on November 9, 1920. Upon his return to Dallas, Rodgers became an associate with Saner & Saner but left in 1925 to found his own firm that specialized in oil and gas law. His firm would eventually come to represent Standard Oil in legal matters. In 1939, Rodgers was elected mayor of Dallas, a position he held until 1947. Fillmore County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 21,228. Its county seat is Preston. Oak Cliff is a neighborhood of Dallas, Texas, that was formerly a separate town in Dallas County; Dallas annexed Oak Cliff in 1901.
