George Rozier
George A. Rozier (August 13, 1902 - 1984) was an American Republican politician and lawyer who has served in the Missouri General Assembly in the Missouri Senate being first elected to the senate in 1934. He also served as the Prosecuting Attorney of Perry County, Missouri, having been first elected to this position in 1926. Born in St. Mary, Missouri, he was educated at Perryville public schools, Chaminade College in Clayton, and at Saint Louis University where he received a law degree. Rozier practiced law for over 50 years, mostly in Jefferson City, Missouri. He resigned his senate seat in October 1941 to become chief counsel for the state Unemployment Compensation Commission. Missouri General Assembly
The Missouri General Assembly is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Missouri. The bicameral General Assembly is composed of a 34-member Senate and a 163-member House of Representatives. Members of both houses of the General Assembly are subject to term limits. Senators are limited to two four-year terms and representatives to four two-year terms, a total of 8 years for members of both houses. The General Assembly meets at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City. Qualifications Members of the House of Representatives must be 24 years of age to be elected. The Missouri Senate is the upper chamber of the Missouri General Assembly. It has 34 members, representing districts with an average population of 174,000. Its members serve four-year terms, with half the seats being up for election every two years. The Senate chooses a President Pro Tempore to serve in the absence of the lieutenant governor or when he shall have to exercise the office of governor of Missouri if there is a vacancy in that office due to death, resignation, impeachment, or incapacitation. Perry County is a county located in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 18,956. Its county seat is Perryville. The county was officially organized on November 16, 1820 (effective January 1, 1821) from Ste. Genevieve County and was named after Oliver Hazard Perry, a naval hero of the War of 1812. History Early Native Americans The first inhabitants of what is now Perry County were Mississippian Mound Builders who cultivated corn and constructed earthen mounds. Perryville is a city in Perry County, Missouri, United States. The population was 8,555 at the 2020 United States census. Perryville is the county seat of Perry County. History Perryville was selected the county seat of Perry County by Robert T. Brown, Joseph Tucker, and Thomas Riney, who had been appointed to select the seat of justice. In 1821, Bernard Layton deeded to the commissioners in exchange for one town lot. Fifty-three of the 99 town lots were sold for $1,486.25, which was used to build the first courthouse. Jean Ferdinand Rozier (November 9, 1777 – January 1, 1864) was a French-American businessman whose partners included naturalist John James Audubon as immerges to the United States and later, lead mogul Firmin Rene Desloge.
