George LeRoy Hudson
George E. LeRoy Hudson (August 4, 1883 – January 14, 1952) was a politician from Alberta, Canada. Hudson was first elected to the Alberta Legislature in the 1913 Alberta general election, winning the new Wainwright electoral district for the Conservative party in a hotly contested election over Liberal candidate and first Mayor of the Town of Wainwright Henry Yale Pawling in which he won by less than 100 votes. Hudson was re-elected to his second term in the Legislature in the 1917 Alberta general election by acclamation under section 38 of the ''Election Act'' that stipulated that Members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta who went to fight overseas in World War I would not face an election in their districts. In the 1921 Alberta general election Hudson was defeated in a landslide by John Russell Love, a candidate from the United Farmers of Alberta. 1917 Alberta General Election
The 1917 Alberta general election was held on 7 June 1917 to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The Liberals won a fourth term in office, defeating the Conservative Party of Edward Michener. Because of World War I, eleven Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) were re-elected by acclamation, under Section 38 of the ''Election Act'', which stipulated that any member of the 3rd Alberta Legislative Assembly, would be guaranteed re-election, with no contest held, if members joined for war time service. Eleven MLAs were automatically re-elected through this clause. (None were re-elected in the next election.) The Legislative Assembly of Alberta is the deliberative assembly of the province of Alberta, Canada. It sits in the Alberta Legislature Building in Edmonton. The 1926 Alberta general election was held on June 28, 1926, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The United Farmers of Alberta government that had first been elected in 1921 was re-elected, taking a majority of the seats in the Alberta Legislature. Herbert Greenfield had resigned as United Farmers leader and premier, and John E. Brownlee led the UFA to this second election victory, increasing the UFA's number of seats. The writs of election were issued on May 10, 1926, allowing an election period of 40 days. 1926 was Alberta's first general election where Single transferable voting (STV) was used in the three largest cities and Instant-runoff voting was used everywhere else. The United Farmers of Alberta (UFA) is an association of Alberta farmers that has served different roles in its 100-year history – as a lobby group, a successful political party, and as a farm-supply retail chain. As a political party, it formed the government of Alberta from 1921 to 1935. The 1921 Alberta general election was held on July 18, 1921, to elect members to the 5th Alberta Legislative Assembly. It was one of only five times that Alberta has changed governments. The Liberal Party, which had governed the province since its creation in 1905, led by Charles Stewart at the time of the election, was defeated by a very-new United Farmers of Alberta political party. The UFA was an agricultural lobby organization that was contesting its first general election. It had previously elected one MLA in a by-election. Under the Block Voting system, each voter in Edmonton and Calgary could vote for up to five candidates, while Medicine Hat voters could vote for up to two candidates. Wainwright, Alberta
Wainwright is a town in east-central Alberta, Canada. It is approximately southeast of Edmonton. Located west of the Alberta–Saskatchewan border, Wainwright is south of Vermilion in the Battle River valley. Highway 41, called the Buffalo Trail, and Highway 14 go through the town. CFB Wainwright is located in Denwood, southwest of Wainwright. History Originally named Denwood by settler James Dawson in 1905, the town was relocated by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway west-northwest and renamed Wainwright after General William Wainwright, the second vice-president of railway. The original townsite opened with post office in 1907 along with Denwood Hotel and store.
