George Harmon Coxe
George Harmon Coxe (April 23, 1901 – January 31, 1984) was an American writer of crime fiction. He is perhaps best known for his series featuring crime scene photographer Casey, Crime Photographer, Jack "Flashgun" Casey, which became a popular Radio programming, radio show airing through to the 1940s. Early years Coxe grew up in Olean, New York, where he was born, and Elmira, New York. He graduated from Ernie Davis Academy, Elmira Free Academy, then attended Cornell and Purdue for one year each and then worked for newspapers in New York, Florida, and California. After working for a printer for five years, he became a full-time writer. Overview Coxe started writing around 1922, initially working as a newspaperman and penning stories for nickel-and-dime pulp magazine, pulp fiction publications. Pulp Magazine
Pulp magazines (also referred to as "the pulps") were inexpensive fiction magazines that were published from 1896 to the late 1950s. The term "pulp" derives from the cheap wood pulp paper on which the magazines were printed. In contrast, magazines printed on higher-quality paper were called "glossies" or "slicks". The typical pulp magazine had 128 pages; it was wide by high, and thick, with ragged, untrimmed edges. The pulps gave rise to the term pulp fiction in reference to run-of-the-mill, low-quality literature. Pulps were the successors to the penny dreadfuls, dime novels, and short-fiction magazines of the 19th century. Although many respected writers wrote for pulps, the magazines were best known for their lurid, exploitative, and sensational subject matter, even though this was but a small part of what existed in the pulps. Gail Patrick (born Margaret LaVelle Fitzpatrick, June 20, 1911 – July 6, 1980) was an American film actress and television producer. Often cast as the bad girl or the other woman, she appeared in more than 60 feature films between 1932 and 1948, notably ''My Man Godfrey'' (1936), ''Stage Door'' (1937), and ''My Favorite Wife'' (1940). Lewis Frederick Ayres III (December 28, 1908 – December 30, 1996) was an American actor whose film and television career spanned 65 years. Early years Florence Davenport Rice was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the only child of the noted sportswriter Grantland Rice and Fannie Katherine Hollis. Paul Michael Kelly (August 9, 1899 – November 6, 1956) was an American stage, film, and television actor. His career survived a manslaughter conviction, tied to an affair, that caused him to spend time in prison in the late 1920s. Early life Paul Michael Kelly was born in Brooklyn, New York, to a Roman Catholic family of Irish descent, the ninth of 10 children. His father owned a saloon, Kelly's Kafe, in the shadow of Vitagraph Studios, on E. 14th St. in Midwood, Brooklyn. ''Casey, Crime Photographer'' (also known simply as ''Crime Photographer'') is an American crime drama television series that aired from April 19, 1951, to June 5, 1952, on the CBS Television Network.
