George Day (Australian Politician)
George Day (29 October 1826 – 13 July 1906) was an Australian politician. He was born in the Hawkesbury River district of New South Wales on 29 October 1826. He was elected from 1874 to 1880 as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, for the electoral district of Hume, and elected from 1880 to 1889 for the electoral district of Albury. He then served from 1889 to 1906 in the New South Wales Legislative Council. Hawkesbury River
The Hawkesbury River, or Hawkesbury-Nepean River, is a river located northwest of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The Hawkesbury River and its associated main tributary, the Nepean River, almost encircle the metropolitan region of Sydney. The Hawkesbury River has its origin at the confluence of the Nepean River and the Grose River, to the north of Penrith and travels for approximately in a north–easterly and then a south–easterly direction to its mouth at Broken Bay, about from the Tasman Sea. The Hawkesbury River is the main tributary of Broken Bay. Secondary tributaries include Brisbane Water and Pittwater, which, together with the Hawkesbury River, flow into Broken Bay and thence into the Tasman Sea north of Barrenjoey Head. Electoral District Of Hume
Hume was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales established in 1859 in the Albury area, named after Hamilton Hume. It did not include the town of Albury after the creation of the electoral district of Albury in 1880. From 1880 to 1894, it elected two members. John Wilkinson (Australian Politician)
John Wilkinson (born 1853) was an Australian politician, elected from 1889 to 1895 as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, for the electoral district of Albury. Wilkinson was born on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent, England and arrived in Sydney as a boy in a ship of which father was a doctor. His father practised in Bathurst, Lambing Flat, Albury and Sale where he died in 1865. His family returned to Albury and he attended school there. He was articled to Joseph Dwyer and admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales and Victoria in 1881. He practiced as a solicitor in Sydney and then practised in Albury. Albury is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is currently held by Justin Clancy of the Liberal Party. Albury is a regional electorate in the state's south. It encompasses the local government areas of the City of Albury, Greater Hume Shire, Federation Council, part of Murrumbidgee Council, part of Snowy Valleys Council that includes the town of Cabramurra. Its significant population centres include Albury, Culcairn, Jindera, Corowa, Howlong, Holbrook, Jerilderie and Tumbarumba. William Lyne
Sir William John Lyne KCMG (6 April 1844 – 3 August 1913) was an Australian politician who served as Premier of New South Wales from 1899 to 1901, and later as a federal cabinet minister under Edmund Barton and Alfred Deakin. He is best known as the subject of the so called " Hopetoun Blunder", unexpectedly being asked to serve as the first Prime Minister of Australia but proving unable to form a government. Lyne was born in Van Diemen's Land, the son of a pastoral farmer. When he was 20, he and cousin took up a sheep station in North West Queensland. However, he moved back home after a few years and found work in local government. Lyne moved to New South Wales in 1875, buying a station near Albury and becoming prominent in community affairs. He was elected to the colonial Legislative Assembly in 1880, and first entered cabinet in 1885 under George Dibbs. Thomas Robertson (New South Wales Politician)
Thomas Robertson (1830 – 1 October 1891) was an English-born Australian politician. He was born at Windsor in Berkshire to Thomas Robertson, who taught mathematics at Eton College, and Isabella Stevenson. He migrated to New South Wales, becoming a squatter in the Clarence River area. He subsequently qualified as a solicitor and in 1863 settled at Deniliquin, where he was a long time alderman of the Municipality of Deniliquin and twice elected Mayor of Deniliquin. On 26 February 1857 he married Jane Susannah Cunningham, with whom he had twelve children. In 1873 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for Hume, but he was defeated in 1874.
