Geopora Cooperi
''Geopora cooperi'', commonly known as the pine truffle or the fuzzy truffle, is a species of fungus in the family Pyronemataceae. It has a fuzzy brown outer surface and an inner surface of whitish, convoluted folds of tissue. Widely distributed in the Northern Hemisphere, the species has been recorded from Asia, Europe, and North America. Taxonomy First described by American mycologist Harvey Willson Harkness in 1885, the fungus is named for the original collector, J.D. Cooper. It is commonly known as the "pine truffle" or the "fuzzy truffle". Description The roughly spherical fruit bodies grow underground. Ranging from in diameter, they are yellow-brown to darker brown with a fuzzy, furrowed external surface. Ten Speed Press is a publishing house founded in Berkeley, California in 1971 by Phil Wood. Ten Speed Press was bought by Random House in February 2009 and is now part of their Crown Publishing Group division. History Wood worked with Barnes & Noble in 1962, Penguin Books in 1965, and had a senior sales position at Penguin Books in Baltimore and New York before founding Ten Speed Press. A snowbank fungus is any one of a number of diverse species of fungi that occur adjacent to or within melting snow. They are most commonly found in the mountains of western North America where a deep snowpack accumulates during the winter and slowly melts through the spring and summer, often shaded by coniferous forest.
