Geoff Drakeford (born 21 December 1991) is an Australian professional golfer from Yarram, Australia. Drakeford turned professional in 2014 and has mostly played on the PGA Tour of Australasia. He had some success in 2015, finishing runner-up in the New Zealand PGA Championship, the Challenge de España and the New South Wales PGA Championship during the year. A professional golfer is somebody who receives payments or financial rewards in the sport of golf that are directly related to their skill or reputation. A person who earns money by teaching or playing golf is traditionally considered a "golf pro," most of whom are teachers/coaches. The professional golfer status is reserved for people who play, rather than teach, golf for a career. In golf, the distinction between amateurs and professionals is rigorously maintained. New South Wales PGA Championship
The New South Wales PGA Championship was a professional golf tournament played in New South Wales, Australia between 1923 and 2015. History The inaugural event was held in 1923 and was won by Fred Popplewell with a score of 311. Dan Soutar had led by two strokes after the first 36 holes at The Australian Golf Club but Popplewell took a three shot lead after a third round of 74 and held on in the final round to win by a stroke. The final 36 holes were played at Royal Sydney. It was a stroke-play event again in 1924 but thereafter it was generally match-play until World War II. After the war it was a match play event in 1946 and 1950 but otherwise it was a stroke-play tournament. The Nomura Cup, also known as the Asia-Pacific Amateur Golf Team Championship, is a biennial amateur team golf championship for men organised by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation. The inaugural event was held in 1963 and it has been played in odd-numbered years since. Format Teams used to consist of four players but from 2022 the playing members have been reduced to three. Eisenhower Trophy
The Eisenhower Trophy (World Men's Amateur Team Championships) is the biennial World Amateur Team Championship for men organized by the International Golf Federation. Since the tournament was first played in 1958, it is named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, the President of the United States at the time, who was a keen amateur golfer. The equivalent competition for women is the Espirito Santo Trophy. Results The 1958 championship resulted in a tie. 2014 Eisenhower Trophy
The 2014 Eisenhower Trophy took place 10–13 September on the Iriyama and Oshitate courses at Karuizawa 72 Golf East in Karuizawa, Japan. It was the 29th World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy and the second to be held in Japan. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 67 three-man teams. The best two scores for each round counted towards the team total. Each team played two rounds on the two courses. The leading teams played on the Oshitate course on the third day and on the Iriyama course on the final day. The Bonallack Trophy is an amateur golf competition on the model of the Ryder Cup which opposes every two years a European team and a team representing Asia/Pacific. The venue alternates between courses in Europe and Asia/Pacific. The first competition took place in 1998 in Perth, Australia. The Australian Men's Interstate Teams Matches were an amateur team golf competition for men between the states and territories of Australia. The event started in 1904 when New South Wales played Victoria. Until World War II the event was played as part of the championship meeting which included the Australian Amateur. It was not until 1947 that all six states, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia, contested the event together. Northern Territory first played in 2015 increasing the number of teams to seven. The final format was a round-robin tournament, each team playing the other six teams, after which the top two teams play a final. Each team consisted of eight players.
