Geoff Corkish
Charles Geoffrey "Geoff" Corkish MBE MLC (born 25 May 1953) is a Manx politician, who is currently a Member of the House of Keys for Douglas West. He was elected at the 2006 General Election, topping the polls beating Home Affairs Minister and Chief Minister candidate John Shimmin and former MHK Geoff Cannell. Mr Corkish has stated his opposition to social media and a belief that forums that do not support the Manx Government should be banned. Early life Born on 25 May 1953 to William Douglas Corkish and Margaret Elizabeth Corkish (née Cringle), he was educated at Pulrose Infants School, Demesne Road School and Douglas High School for Boys. He later went on to work for the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company from 1969 to 2006, rising to be Communications Director. He is also the Chairman of the Arts Council and his interests include singing. He was awarded an MBE in the 2007 New Year's Honours. John Shimmin
John Shimmin (born 1 July 1960) is a former Member of the House of Keys for Douglas West. Early life Shimmin was born in Douglas in 1960 and educated at St Ninian's High School and the Worcester College of Higher Education. He was then a teacher (Physical Education, Mathematics, General Studies) from 1982 in several areas of the UK - Crewe, Tamworth, Knowsley before returning to teach in Douglas (St Ninian’s High School) where he was also Head of Year from 1989-96 until entering politics. Political career Shimmin was elected as MHK for Douglas West in 1996 at his first attempt. He became Chairman of the Isle of Man Post Office in 1999 before becoming Minister of Transport in 2002. Douglas High School For Boys
St Ninian's High School ( gv, Schoill Ard Noo Ninian) is a secondary school located in Douglas and Onchan, on the Isle of Man. The School is set over two different sites, catering for different year groups. History The modern institution originated as a 1985 union of previously independent upper and lower schools. The lower dates to 1894, originally based at Park Road in central Douglas. The upper school, Douglas High School for Boys was founded in 1927 at Ballaquayle. Alumni of the high school formed the football club Douglas High School Old Boys A.F.C. A review of secondary education in Douglas in 1985 formed St. Ninians, establishing a new name and uniting the two parts. In 1998, staff member Alex Townsend developed the Manx Telecomputer Bus program, which saw the development of a mobile IT classroom. Geoff Cannell
Geoffrey Thornton Cannell (July 1, 1942 – September 24, 2007) was a Member of the House of Keys (MHK) and a sports broadcaster in the Isle of Man. Biography Geoff Cannell was born on July 1, 1942, in Douglas and educated on the Island. Apart from his brief spell in the House of Keys and another in the Tourist Board from 1978 he worked for Manx Radio as press officer, sports editor and news editor. He generally is well known for covering major sports events, especially the TT and also for his coverage of Tynwald. In 1998, he was elected the MHK for Onchan, following Ray Kniveton's elevation to the Legislative Council. However, he lost his seat at the 2001 Manx General Election to Adrian Earnshaw by some 300 votes.
