Gentofte Fire Station
Gentofte Fire Station (Danish: Gentofte Brandstation) is situated adjacent to Gentofte Town Hall on Bernstorffsvej in Gentofte Municipality, Greater Copenhagen, Denmark. It is operated by Beredskab Øst. History Gentofte Fire Department was founded on 17 May 1902 with volunteer personnel at six local fire stations (''sprøjtehuse'') in Gentofte, Ordrup, Skovshovede, Hellerup, Jægersborg and Vangede. The fire station in Hellerup, which had more tall buildings, acquired a 26 ft ladder. One of the firemen, Søren Christensen, made two motorcycles available to the fire station in 1903. In 1905, Gentofte Fire Department acquired its first motorized fire engine. A second fire engine, an Anglo Dane, was acquired in 1907. Gentofte Kommune is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in the Capital Region of Denmark (''Region Hovedstaden'') on the east coast of the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. It covers an area of , and has a total population of 74,548 (1 April 2014). Since 17 May 2021, its mayor has been Michael Fenger, a member of the Conservative People's Party (''Det Konservative Folkeparti''). Jægersborg is a suburban neighbourhood in Gentofte Municipality, some 12 km north of central Copenhagen, Denmark. History The whole area was from at least 1401 a royal estate known as Ibstrup (the earliest sources refer to it as Jepstorp). The nearest village was Mellerup located midway between Ibstrup and Ordrup. Its land came under Ibstrup when it disappeared in the middle of the 17th century. The Ibstrup estate was since Queen Margaret's day used for royal hunts, although King Frederick II was the first to establish a royal residence at the site. In 1611, Christian IV replaced it with a new building, ''Ibstrup Slot'', in Dutch Renaissance style surrounded by moats. King Frederick III gave the property to his consort, Queen Sophie Amalie. A wind vane, weather vane, or weathercock is an instrument used for showing the direction of the wind. It is typically used as an architectural ornament to the highest point of a building. Dennis Specialist Vehicles was an English manufacturer of commercial vehicles based in Guildford, building buses, fire engines, lorries (trucks) and municipal vehicles such as dustcarts. All vehicles were made to order to the customer's requirements and more strongly built than mass production equivalents. For most of the 20th century the Dennis company was Guildford's main employer. Following a decade of financial difficulties original shareholders sold out in 1972 and Dennis's ownership has since passed through quite a number of hands. Vangede is a suburb 8 km north of central Copenhagen, Denmark. This area is primarily made up of one and two family houses and two and three story apartment buildings. History The first known references to the village is from 1346 when it is referred to as ''Wangwethæ''. Landmarks Munkegaard School was completed in 1953 to a design by Arne Jacobsen. Hellerup () is a very affluent district of Gentofte Municipality in the suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark.
