Genoa-Saint George Bridge
The Genoa Saint George Bridge ( it, Viadotto Genova-San Giorgio) is a motorway viaduct that crosses the Polcevera river and the districts of Sampierdarena and Cornigliano, in the city of Genoa. It was designed by architect Renzo Piano. The bridge replaces the Ponte Morandi (Polcevera Viaduct), which partially collapsed on 14 August 2018 and was demolished in June 2019. The new viaduct, with its associated junctions, constitutes the initial section of the Italian A10 motorway, managed by the concessionaire Autostrade per l'Italia, which in turn is included in the European route E80. The new bridge was inaugurated on 3 August 2020. Polcevera
The Polcevera (in Ligurian ''Pûçéivia'' or ''Ponçéivia'') is a river in Liguria (Italy). Geography The river is named the Polcevera from Pontedecimo, at the confluence of the Torrente Riccò (left-hand) and torrente Verde (right-hand). Between Pontedecimo and the Ligurian Sea, the Polcevera is long, but its total length including the Torrente Verde is . From Pontedecimo the Polcevera heads south, and at Bolzaneto it receives the waters of the Torrente Secca, another important left-hand tributary. After being crossed by the , a motorway bridge that partially collapsed in August 2018, it ends its course in the Ligurian Sea between Sampierdarena and Cornigliano, two of Genoa. Ponte Morandi
(English: Morandi Bridge), officially (English: Polcevera Viaduct), was a road viaduct in Genoa, Liguria, Italy, constructed between 1963 and 1967 along the A10 motorway over the Polcevera River, from which it derived its official name. It connected Genoa's Sampierdarena and Cornigliano districts across the Polcevera Valley. The bridge was widely called "Ponte Morandi" after its structural designer, engineer Riccardo Morandi. On 14 August 2018, a section of the viaduct collapsed during a rainstorm, killing forty-three people. The collapse led to a year-long state of emergency in the Liguria region, extensive analysis of the structural failure, and widely varying assignment of responsibility. The remains of the original bridge were demolished in June 2019. The replacement bridge, the Genoa-Saint George Bridge was inaugurated a year later. Structurae is an online database containing pictures and information about structural engineering, structural and civil engineering works, and their associated engineers, architects, and builders. Its entries are user-generated content, contributed by volunteers and saved in a MySQL database. Overview Structurae was founded in 1998 by Nicolas Janberg, who had studied civil engineering at Princeton University.
