General is the title of the international leader and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Salvation Army, a Christian denomination with extensive charitable social services that gives quasi-military rank to its ministers (who are therefore known as officers). The General is elected by the High Council of The Salvation Army and serves a term of five years, which may be extended to seven years. Brian Peddle, the current general, assumed the position in August 2018 upon the retirement of Andre Cox. The organisation's founder, William Booth, was the first and longest-serving general. General Records
General Records was a small American record label during the late 1930s and early 1940s. Its most notable releases are piano solos recorded by Jelly Roll Morton in December 1939 late in his career. History Established around 1939, General Records was a division of Consolidated Records, Inc., of New York City. The label was owned by pioneering sound engineer Hazard E. Reeves, of Reeves Sound Studios (1939–1944) in Manhattan. The audio fidelity is above average for the era, and most General gramophone record, discs were pressed in good quality shellac, although the quality declined as good shellac became scarce with the start of World War II. The most famous General Records are a series of recordings by Jelly Roll Morton. The ''General'' (train numbers 48 and 49) was the Pennsylvania Railroad's (PRR) number two train between New York City and Chicago. Only marginally slower than the ''Broadway Limited'', it had no extra fare. For a time before World War II, the train carried more passengers than the ''Broadway Limited'' and had been stealing passengers from the New York Central Railroad's ''20th Century Limited''. The ''General'' was inaugurated in 1937, and carried coaches and Pullmans. It received some new lightweight equipment in 1938 as part of the fleet of modernism, but it was mostly heavyweight until 1940. It was the only "Fleet of Modernism" train to be streamlined without an observation car. ''Generals'' is the second studio album by the indie pop band The Mynabirds. It was released by Saddle Creek Records on June 5, 2012 and produced by Richard Swift. The album's title was inspired by Richard Avedon's photograph "Generals of the Daughters of the American Revolution". Track listing All songs written by Laura Burhenn, except where noted. Reception On Metacritic, ''Generals'' has an average score of 79 out of 100, indicating "generally favorable reviews". General (Ulysses Hadrian Armstrong) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by Chuck Dixon as an adversary of Batman, the character first appeared in ''Detective Comics'' #654, published in December 1992. Named for the character's gimmick for military strategy and prowess with small arms, stories involving the character often include Military history, historic military references and themes. Initially portrayed as a dangerously psychopathic, murderous child, the tone of the General was changed by Dixon himself for later appearances.
