Gene Mangan
Eugene "Gene" Mangan (born 1936) is an Irish Cycle sport, cyclist. He won the Rás Tailteann in 1955. Early life Mangan is a native of County Kerry. He is a distant cousin of John Mangan, who also won the Rás. Career Mangan joined Killorglin Cycling Club in 1952. In that year, and in 1953, he won the County Kerry Road Championship. Mangan won the 1955 Rás Tailteann aged 18; he is still the youngest-ever winner. In 1958 Rás he won the last four stages, setting a record that still stands. Mangan also won several races at the Irish National Cycling Championships. Personal life Mangan married Maeve of Glenbeigh County Kerry . He was honoured at an event at Áras an Uachtaráin in 2000. Killorglin () is a town in County Kerry, Ireland. As of the 2016 Central Statistics Office of Ireland, CSO census, the town's population was 2,199. Killorglin is on the Ring of Kerry tourist route, and annual events include the August Puck Fair festival, which starts with the crowning and parading of a "king" wild goat. History Origins and development The earliest evidence of ancient settlement in the Killorglin area is the presence of Rock_art_of_Europe#Atlantic_European_rock_art, prehistoric rock art. These rock carvings are part of a Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age tradition stretching across Atlantic Europe and occur in concentrations around the Iveragh Peninsula, Iveragh and Dingle Peninsula, Dingle peninsulas, with a cluster close to the nearby town of Glenbeigh.
