Gem (Dutch Band)
Gem is a rock band from Utrecht, Netherlands. The five-piece band was founded in 2003, and has released four albums of which ''Hunters Go Hungry'' (2011) is the newest. History In 2003 when singer Maurits Westerik joined with guitarist Bas de Graaff and bassist Vincent Lemmen. With the addition of second guitarist Simon Bonner the band recorded its first demo in Studio Moskou in Utrecht. Tony van Best drummed on the tracks. Having heard that The Libertines were to play in the Melkweg in Amsterdam, Westerik sent links to some of their MP3s, and asked if the band could play as opening act. The programmers at the Melkweg agreed. The band were the subject of a feature story on the channel 3VOOR12, and were included in a compilation album in the ''Unsigned Series'', an initiative of the Dutch Pop Institute. Sub Pop is a record label founded in 1986 by Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman. Ambassador Theatre (Dublin)
The Ambassador Cinema was Dublin's longest-running cinema and was operational on and off until 1999. It operated as a music venue between 2001 and 2008. The Ambassador's current use is as an exhibition hall and event centre. The building was constructed as part of the Rotunda Hospital in 1764 as an assembly hall and social rooms on what is now called Parnell Street. From 1897 onwards, the venue was given the name Rotund Room and hosted a number of "moving picture" screenings which were a great novelty at the time. From about 1908 onwards, it was used more regularly to show film presentations and in 1910 it became a full-time cinema, with 736 seats, a basic layout at the time. Editors are an English rock band, formed in 2002 in Birmingham. Previously known as Pilot, The Pride and Snowfield, the band currently consists of Tom Smith (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Russell Leetch (bass guitar, synthesiser, backing vocals), Ed Lay (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Justin Lockey (lead guitar), Elliott Williams (keys, synthesizers, guitars, and backing vocals), and Benjamin John Power (composer and producer). Brighton
Brighton () is a seaside resort and one of the two main areas of the City of Brighton and Hove in the county of East Sussex, England. It is located south of London. The Great Escape Festival
The Great Escape Festival is a three-day music festival held in Brighton and Hove, England every year in May. It is operated by MAMA Festivals and showcases new music from a variety of genres. The festival was founded in 2006 and roughly hosts 300 bands across 30 venues throughout the city. It has been likened to South by Southwest. There is also a music industry convention section to the event, which is attended by over 3000 delegates.
