Gefiontinde
Gefiontinde (Gefion Peak) is the highest mountain in Queen Louise Land ( da, Dronning Louise Land), NE Greenland. The peak is located in the King Frederick VIII Land area of northeastern Greenland. Administratively it is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park zone. This peak was named after Gefion, the virgin sister of Danish deities who is said to have ploughed the whole Danish island of Zealand ''(Sjælland)'' in one night. Geography Gefiontinde is the highest peak in a group of peaks named ''Gefions Tinder'' or '' Gefiontinder'' at the southwestern end of Queen Louise Land, between Pony Glacier and Budolfi Isstrøm. Revaltoppe is one of the highest mountains in Queen Louise Land, NE Greenland. The peak is located in the King Frederick VIII Land area of northeastern Greenland. Administratively it is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park zone. This peak was named after Reval, the historical name of Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, where according to a legend, the ''Dannebrog'' ( flag of Denmark) is said to have dropped from the sky during a battle between the Danes and the Estonians in 1219. King Frederick VIII Land
King Frederick VIII Land ( da, Kong Frederik VIII Land) is a major geographic division of northeastern Greenland. It extends above the Arctic Circle from 76°N to 81°N in a N/S direction along the coast of the Greenland Sea. History This vast desolate region was still uncharted territory around 1900. It was explored by the 1906–08 Danmark Expedition, the 1909–12 Alabama Expedition and by J.P. Gefjon
In Norse mythology, Gefjon (Old Norse: ; alternatively spelled Gefion, or Gefjun , pronounced without secondary syllable stress) is a goddess associated with ploughing, the Danish island of Zealand, the legendary Swedish king Gylfi, the legendary Danish king Skjöldr, foreknowledge, her oxen children, and virginity. Zealand
Zealand ( da, Sjælland ) at 7,031 km2 is the largest and most populous island in Denmark proper (thus excluding Greenland and Disko Island, which are larger in size). Pony Glacier
A pony is a type of small horse ('' Equus ferus caballus'').
