Ferenc Gebauer (25 June 1888–1958) was an Austrian-born Hungarian firearms designer and pilot during the First World War. Early life and career Gebauer was born as Franz Gebauer on 25 June 1888 in Velké Heraltice , (Groß Herrlitz in German) in Austria-Hungary to Wawra Józefa. From 1901 to 1911 he worked as a plant manager for a car factory in Germany, then went to work for the Puch motorcycle factory in Graz, Austria from 1911 to 1914. He served in World War I in the Austro-Hungarian Air Force (KuK Luftfahrtruppen) as a car courier officer of the army headquarters (August 21, 1914 to March 1915), a field pilot on the Italian front from May 25, 1916 to September 3, 1917, a factory pilot at the Aspern Phönix Flugzeugwerke aircraft factory from September 3, 1917 to September 1918 and finally served as a gunsmith at the Fischamend Air Base in 1918 until the war ended. Johan Christian Gebauer
Johann Christian Gebauer (6 August 1808 – 24 January 1884) was a Danish composer, organist and music theorist. Background Gebauer was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. His father was the painter, Christian David Gebauer (1777–1831). He lived with his paternal grandmother during his childhood in Christiansfeld where he received a strict and religious upbringing. Gebauer showed promise as a musician early on. He received his first formal training in music from German-born composer Friedrich Kuhlau. Later Royal Court composer Christoph Ernst Friedrich Weyse and still later composer Peter Casper Krossing taught Gebauer music, although Kuhlau remained the most influential. François-René Gebauer
François-René Gebauer (15 March 1773, Versailles, France – 28 July 1845, Paris) was a French composer, professor, and bassoonist and the son of a German military musician. He had four brothers, Michel-Joseph Gebauer (1763–1812), Pierre-Paul Gebauer, Jean-Luc Gebauer, and Étienne-François Gebauer, all of whom were also musicians and composers. The brothers played together in a quintet that was modeled on woodwind quintet instrumentation but modified by removing the flute parts to include their brother Jean-Luc, who was a percussionist. The quintet received favorable reviews from critics, who found the music to be "unusually lively for a wind quintet" and "full of earthly elegance". He took music lessons first with his brother Michel-Joseph Gebauer, which ended soon due to artistic differences between the two. Michel-Joseph Gebauer
Michel-Joseph Gebauer (1763 or 3 May 1765 – December 1812) was a French oboist, violinist, viol player, bandmaster, and composer. Gebauer was born in La Fère in Aisne. He became an oboist in the Royal Swiss Guard at the age of 14, as well as becoming expert at both the violin and viol. In 1791 he became oboist in the Garde Nationale, and in 1794 professor at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he stayed until 1802. Thereafter he served as bandmaster of the Garde des Consuls and of its successor the Imperial Guard. He accompanied the army during a number of campaigns, during which he studied and incorporated elements from German military music. He died while accompanying the Grande Armée on its disastrous invasion of Russia, during the retreat from Moscow. He composed over 200 popular marches, as well as a number of other pieces for various instruments, particularly duets and quartets. Jan Gebauer (8 October 1838, Úbislavice – 25 May 1907, Prague) was a significant expert on Czech studies and one of the most renowned Czech scientists of all times. His scientific work was influenced by the methods of positivism. Biography Jan Gebauer was born into a poor family in the small village of Úbislavice near the Krkonoše mountains. Thanks to a recommendation from a local clergyman, Gebauer received an offer to study at high school in Jičín. After his school-leaving exam, he first went on to study theology, but he did not finish it and enrolled onto a philosophy program at Charles University instead. During the whole time of his studies, he suffered from a lack of money. After finishing his studies, he started working as a teacher – in Prague at first, later in Pardubice, and finally in Prague again.
