Gaétan Lelièvre is a Canadian politician. The Parti Québécois (; ; PQ) is a sovereignist and social democratic provincial political party in Quebec, Canada. The PQ advocates national sovereignty for Quebec involving independence of the province of Quebec from Canada and establishing a sovereign state. The PQ has also promoted the possibility of maintaining a loose political and economic sovereignty-association between Quebec and Canada. The party traditionally has support from the labour movement, but unlike most other social democratic parties, its ties with organized labour are informal. The National Assembly of Quebec (officially in french: link=no, Assemblée nationale du Québec) is the legislative body of the province of Quebec in Canada. Legislators are called MNAs (Members of the National Assembly; french: link=no, députés). The King in Right of Quebec, represented by the Lieutenant Governor of Quebec and the National Assembly compose the Legislature of Quebec, which operates in a fashion similar to those of other Westminster-style parliamentary systems. The assembly has 125 members elected first past the post from single-member districts. The National Assembly was formerly the lower house of Quebec's legislature and was then called the Legislative Assembly of Quebec. Gaspé (provincial Electoral District)
Gaspé is a provincial electoral district in the Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine region of Quebec, Canada, which elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It is located on the eastern edge of the Gaspé Peninsula. It notably includes the municipalities of Gaspé, Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, Grande-Rivière and Percé. It was originally created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). Its final election was in 1927. It disappeared in the 1931 election and its successor electoral districts were Gaspé-Nord and Gaspé-Sud. It was re-created for the 1973 election by merging part of Gaspé-Nord with all of Gaspé-Sud, which both ceased to exist. Georges Mamelonet
Georges Mamelonet (30 November 1954 – 11 March 2015) was a Canadian politician, who was elected to the National Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Gaspé in the 2008 provincial election. He was a member of the Quebec Liberal Party. Prior to his election to the Assembly, Mamelonet served as mayor of Percé. He studied at École de la Marine nationale in Marseille, France, as a steam and diesel mechanic before moving in the Gaspésie region in 1978 and worked as a businessman and restaurateur until starting his political career. Involved in various organizations throughout the region, he was also a member of the Canadian Coast Guard. He died in a car accident on 11 March 2015. '' |
Méganne Perry Mélançon
Méganne Perry Mélançon (born May 10, 1990) is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2018 provincial election. She represented the electoral district of Gaspé as a member of the Parti Québécois until her defeat in the 2022 Quebec general election. On election night, Perry Mélançon was declared to have been defeated by Alexandre Boulay of the Quebec Liberal Party. She was found to have defeated Boulay by a margin of 41 votes after a recount. |

2012 Quebec General Election
The 2012 Quebec general election took place in the Canadian province of Quebec on September 4, 2012. Lieutenant Governor Pierre Duchesne dissolved the National Assembly on August 1, 2012, following Premier Jean Charest's request. The Parti Québécois were elected to a minority government, with Pauline Marois becoming the first woman to be Premier of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party took second place, with Premier Jean Charest losing his seat. The newly formed party Coalition Avenir Québec led by François Legault took third place, while Québec solidaire took 2 seats out of the 125. It was the first time since 2007 (and only the third time in Quebec history) that a minority government would be formed, as no party won an absolute majority of the seats.
