Gazipur-4 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh since 2012 by Simeen Hussain Rimi of the Awami League. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Kapasia Upazila. History The constituency was created in 1984 from a Dhaka constituency when the former Dhaka District was split into six districts: Manikganj, Munshiganj, Dhaka, Gazipur, Narsingdi, and Narayanganj. Afsaruddin Ahmad
Afsaruddin Ahmad Khan (1940 – 17 November 2021) was a Bangladesh Awami League politician. He served as a Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Gazipur-4 constituency during 1996–2001 and the state minister for housing and public works during 1996–1997. He was the younger brother of Tajuddin Ahmad, the inaugural Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Early life and family Khan was born to Maulavi Muhammad Yasin Khan and Meherunnesa Khanam. He had two brothers and six sisters. Career Khan was elected to parliament in 1996 from Gazipur-4. He served as the State Minister for public works in the First Sheikh Hasina Cabinet from 1996 to 1997. In 2012, by-elections were called in Gazipur-4, after Sohel Taj resigned. Simeen Hussain Rimi
Simeen Hussain Rimi (born 19 August 1961) is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and the incumbent Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Gazipur-4 constituency. She was elected in the 10th Parliamentary Elections held on 5 January 2014 and in the 11th Parliamentary Elections on 31 December 2018. She is chairperson of the parliamentary standing committee of the Ministry of Culture. In November 2022, she became a member of Awami League Presidium. Early life and education Rimi was born in 1961 to Tajuddin Ahmad, the inaugural Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and Syed Zohra, another politician. Kapasia ( bn, কাপাসিয়া) is an upazila (sub-district) of Gazipur District in central Bangladesh, part of the Dhaka Division. It is located at , and is best known as the home upazila of Tajuddin Ahmad, the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The Jatiya Sangsad ( bn, জাতীয় সংসদ, lit=National Parliament, translit=Jatiyô Sôngsôd), often referred to simply as the ''Sangsad'' or JS and also known as the House of the Nation, is the supreme legislative body of Bangladesh. The current parliament of Bangladesh contains 350 seats, including 50 seats reserved exclusively for women. Elected occupants are called Member of Parliament, or MP. Syeda Zohra Tajuddin
Syeda Zohra Tajuddin (24 December 1932 – 20 December 2013) was a Bangladesh Awami League politician. She was a leader of the party and served as its president from 1980 to 1981. She was the wife of the first prime minister Tajuddin Ahmad. Biography Tajuddin was born on 24 December 1932. She studied social science at the University of Dhaka. 2014 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 5 January 2014, in accordance with the constitutional requirement that elections must take place within the 90-day period before the expiration of the term of the Jatiya Sangshad on 24 January 2014. The elections were not free and fair. They were preceded by a government crackdown on the opposition, with Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Opposition leader Khaleda Zia was put under house arrest. There were widespread arrests of other opposition members, violence and strikes by the opposition, attacks on religious minorities, and extrajudicial killings by the government, with around 21 people killed on election day. 2001 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 1 October 2001. The 300 single-seat constituencies of the Jatiya Sangsad were contested by 1,935 candidates representing 54 parties and including 484 independents.
