Gazeta Sporturilor
''Gazeta Sporturilor'' ( en, The Sports Gazette) is a daily Romanian newspaper, and the country's largest and most read sports-related publication. It is owned by Ringier Sportal S.R.L—a joint venture of Ringier Romania S.R.L. and the Bulgarian Sportal Media Group. ''Gazeta Sporturilor'' is mainly focused on association football, but also covers most sports events related to Romania, as well as the most important international sports news. In 2008, the newspaper launched a television channel named GSP TV, but it was closed after only six years. History The newspaper was founded in 1924, even though it did not appear during the Communist period, when it was replaced by the ''Sportul'' newspaper, published by the Romanian Communist Party. The Romania Coach of the Year ( ro, Antrenorul anului în România) is an annual association football award given by the '' Gazeta Sporturilor'' newspaper to the head coach in Romania adjudged to have been the best during a calendar year. Mircea Lucescu and Dan Petrescu hold the record for the most wins with five each. The Romanian Footballer of the Year ( ro, Fotbalistul român al anului), also known as the Nicolae Dobrin Trophy ( ro, Trofeul Nicolae Dobrin), is an annual association football award given by the ''Gazeta Sporturilor'' newspaper to the Romanian player adjudged to have been the best during a calendar year. The current holder is Florin Niță, who won the award for his performances in 2021 representing Sparta Prague. It has been presented since 1966 and is currently named after Nicolae Dobrin, the first recipient of the award and one of Romania's most notable footballers.
