Gaumee Film Awards
The Gaumee Film Awards aka Dhivehi Film Awards are presented by National Centre for the Arts to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Maldivian film industry. The Gaumee Film Award ceremony is the oldest film events in Maldives. The ceremony had been sponsored by various private organisations in the past as well as in present provisions. A live ceremony was broadcast to television audiences. History A meeting was arranged at MCM on 30 October 1993, once the government decides to hold a Film Festival to honor the film industry. The awards were first introduced in 1994. Out of the twenty two people invited from the fraternity, only ten people showed up for the meeting. Niuma
''Niuma'' is a 2010 Maldivian drama film directed by Niuma Mohamed. Produced by Mohamed Abdulla under Dhekedheke Ves Production, the film stars Niuma Mohamed, Yoosuf Shafeeu, Ahmed Nimal, Mohamed Manik, and Sheela Najeeb in pivotal roles. The film was released on 25 October 2010. The entire production was shot in B. Goidhoo. Plot Nizam (Mohamed Manik), a photographer, has a perversion which makes him sexually attracted to his sister. ''Mikoe Bappa Baey Baey'' is a 2015 Maldivian thriller film directed by Ravee Farooq. Produced by Mohamed Ali under Dark Rain Entertainment, the film stars Mohamed Manik and Aishath Rishmy in pivotal roles. The film was released on 12 August 2015. It was one of the three entries from Maldives to the SAARC Film Festival 2016. The film depicts a man supposedly suffering from amnesia, and his interactions with a woman who claims to be his wife. Plot The film opens when Ahmed Fazeel/Mohamed Saleem (Mohamed Manik) wakes up to an unfamiliar environment. Everything he sees seems to be queer and unrecognizable. When he starts looking and discovering things around him, he is amazed by seeing a baby monitor. A while later, he hears a baby crying. Ahmed Nimal
Ahmed Nimal is a Maldivian actor, director, editor, writer and producer. Early life Prior to acting in films, Nimal worked at Maldives Meteorological Service office. His interest in films and acting grew due to the influence of his colleagues including Easa Shareef and other friends who actively take part in theatre plays. Career Nimal made his career debut with ''Nufoozu'' (1984), an initiation by Shareef and his colleagues. Initially assigned to work behind the camera, Shareef requested him to star in the lead role of the film due to a date conflict of the original actor who was offered the role first. Afterwards, he started working as a full-time actor and led an organization "Dhivehi Harakaaiy Jamiyya" along with Shareef.
