Gateway, Oregon
Gateway is an unincorporated community in Jefferson County, Oregon, United States. It is located about 16 miles east of Warm Springs. Gateway was named for a depression in the terrain north of Madras formed by the erosion of Trout Creek and its tributaries, which created a natural gateway for north–south railroad and vehicular traffic through Central Oregon. The name Gateway was applied to the post office at this locale in 1913. The post office, which was established about three miles from present-day Gateway, was originally called Youngs after local resident Louis A. Young. Gateway post office closed in 1956. The Proprietor of the Store and Post Office was Noah Vibbert. The station on the Oregon Trunk Railway in Gateway was also known as Galloway (not to be confused with the post office of the same name in Morrow County). Yarmouth, Maine
Yarmouth is a town in Cumberland County, Maine, United States, twelve miles north of the state's largest city, Portland. When originally settled in 1636, as North Yarmouth, it was part of Massachusetts, and remained as such for 213 years. Morrow County, Oregon
Morrow County is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,186. The county seat is Heppner. The county is named for one of its first settlers, Jackson L. Morrow, who was a member of the state legislature when the county was created. The Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railway (SP&S) was a railroad in the northwest United States. Incorporated in 1905, it was a joint venture by the Great Northern Railway and the Northern Pacific Railway to build a railroad along the north bank of the Columbia River. Central Oregon
Central Oregon is a geographic region in the U.S. state of Oregon and is traditionally considered to be made up of Deschutes, Jefferson, and Crook counties. Trout Creek (Deschutes River)
Trout Creek is a long tributary of the Deschutes River in the U.S. state of Oregon. It drains approximately of Crook, Jefferson, and Wasco counties. Arising in the Ochoco Mountains, it flows north and then west to its confluence with the Deschutes River. Course Trout Creek's headwaters are in the western Ochoco Mountains, northeast of Prineville. It flows north, gathering minor tributaries such as Auger Creek and Amity Creek. The creek turns northwest and then west near the ghost town of Ashwood, straddling the Jefferson/Wasco county line. It receives Antelope Creek on the right bank. Highway 97 crosses the creek near Willowdale. Several miles downstream, Trout Creek receives Hay and Mud Springs creeks on the left bank. Madras ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Jefferson County, Oregon, United States. Originally called "The Basin" after the circular valley the city is in, it is unclear whether Madras was named in 1903 for the cotton fabric called " Madras" that originated in the city of Madras (now Chennai) in Tamil Nadu, India or from the name of the city itself. The population was 6,046 at the 2010 census. History The original plat for Madras was filed on July 18, 1902, by Scandinavian immigrant John A. Palmehn, for whom the town was originally named "Palmain". Located on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation, the community is also known as the "Warm Springs Agency". The population was 2,945 at the 2010 census, up from 2,431 at the 2000 census.
