Gary Thompson (c. 1932 – November 12, 2010) was an American basketball coach. He served as the head basketball coach at Wichita State University from 1964 to 1971, compiling a record of 93–94. Thompson led the Wichita State Shockers to the Final Four of the 1965 NCAA University Division basketball tournament. Thompson died on November 12, 2010. Gary Thompson (basketball Player)
Gary Thompson is a retired American basketball player and broadcaster. He was an All-American player at Iowa State. Following his collegiate career, Thompson played for the Phillips 66ers of the Amateur Athletic Union and had a successful career as a broadcaster. Playing career Known as the "Roland Rocket", Gary Thompson came to Iowa State University from the small town of Roland, Iowa to become one of the Cyclones' first cage stars. A 5'10 guard, Thompson was the first Iowa State player to score more than 1,000 points and the first player in school history to tally 40 points in a game. As a senior in 1956–57, Thompson earned consensus second team All-American honors, first team All-America status from the Associated Press, and was named Big Seven Conference player of the year, beating out Kansas star Wilt Chamberlain. Gary Thompson (born 31 May 1992 in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish racecar driver. Career Thompson started racing in karts in 2003, finishing 5th in the Cadet Irish Championship. His karting career continued in the British Cadet Championship and later the British JICA Championship, where he finished 6th in 2006 and 3rd in 2007. In 2009 Thompson moved into Formula Cars and raced in the Formula BMW Pacific Championship, winning the opening race at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia. In total Thompson had 11 podium finishes and finished 2nd overall, winning the Rookie of the Year Cup. He spent the following years racing in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship with the KC Motorgroup (KCMG) team, while also testing Super Formula for the KCMG team at the Fuji Speedway. He briefly raced with the Romeo-Ferraris team in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship, but left the squad after two rounds.
