Garry Thompson (darts Player)
Garry Thompson (born 9 January 1965) is a former English professional darts player who played in the British Darts Organisation tournaments. Darts career Thompson reached the quarter finals of the 2004 British Open, beating Tony David and Darryl Fitton before losing to Phill Nixon. He then reached the quarter finals of the 2007 Belgium Open, again beating Fitton along the way. He lost to Robbie Turner. On 17 February 2008 Thompson caused a major surprise by winning the 2008 Scottish Open, with notable wins against Steve Coote, World Masters champion Robert Thornton and former World Champion Martin Adams before beating Shaun Greatbatch in the final. He received £2,000 for his efforts and as a result, he shot up the BDO and WDF rankings. Thompson then won the unranked Welsh Classic, beating the Netherlands' Joey ten Berge in the final. Garry Thompson (footballer, Born 1959)
Garry Lindsey Thompson (born 7 October 1959) is an English former professional footballer and manager who made over 480 appearances in the Football League, most notably for Coventry City, West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa. After his retirement as a player, Thompson moved into coaching and management. Playing career A forward, Thompson had a long playing career and club level, making 487 appearances and scoring 124 goals in the Premier League and throughout the Football League. His peak years were earlier in his career with Coventry City, for whom he scored 49 goals in 158 appearances and West Bromwich Albion, for whom he was voted the club's 1984–85 Player of the Year. Late in the 1989–90 season Thompson joined Crystal Palace to provide cover for the injured Ian Wright, but was cup-tied for the 1990 FA Cup Final. Garry Kevin Langrish Thompson (born 24 November 1980) is an English football coach and former player who was last manager of Bradford (Park Avenue). Playing career Born in Kendal, Cumbria, Thompson scored Morecambe's first goal in the Conference play-off Final against Exeter City in May 2007. In January 2008, Morecambe turned down a £10,000 offer from Bradford City for Thompson. Instead he agreed to sign for Scunthorpe United on a three-year contract on 27 May 2008 on a free transfer, joining on 1 July. He was released by the club in May 2012. Thompson signed a one-year contract with Bradford City on 4 July 2012. He made his debut on 11 August in the League Cup during a 1–0 win against Notts County. Robert Howard Garry Thomson CBE, (13 September 1925 – 23 May 2007) was a conservator and a Buddhist. Biography Robert Howard Garry Thomson (known as Garry Thomson) was born on Carey Island, Malaya, where his father was a planter producing palm oil. He attended Charterhouse School, in England, after which he served with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in India at the end of the Second World War before going on to Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he read Chemistry. From 1951 to 1955, he worked on the editorial staff of ‘A History of Technology’, then began his long association with the National Gallery in London, where he started as a research chemist.
