Gary McFadden
Gary 'Copper' McFadden (born 1980s) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for Glenswilly and also, formerly, for the Donegal county team. He was a panel member when Donegal won the 2012 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. He normally plays as a midfielder or half forward. Early life McFadden was educated at St Eunan's College in Letterkenny. Manus McFadden, so crucial in the foundation of Glenswilly's GAA club, is his uncle, as he is also the uncle of Glenswilly player Kealan McFadden. Playing career Club McFadden captained Glenswilly to their first Donegal Senior Football Championship in 2011, with a 1–8 to 0–9 victory over St Michael's. Glenswilly GAA (Irish: ''CLG Gleann tSúilí'') is a GAA club based in Glenswilly, County Donegal, Ireland. Most noted for winning the Donegal Senior Football Championship in 2011, 2013 and 2016, the team has fielded players like All-Ireland winning captain Michael Murphy. The club's chairman is Michael Murphy. History The present club was founded in 1982. A teenage Manus McFadden arranged a meeting at Foxhall of Glenswillyites who were interested in forming a team, with Joe Kelly, Roger McDaid, Fr Eamon Crossan, Finbar Glackin, Jimmy Joe McGinley and chair Eddie McDevitt (who has since died). Captain (Gaelic Games)
A captain of a Gaelic games team, sometimes known as a ''skipper'', is a player who, during the course of a match as well as before and after it, has several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of his teammates. Tradition means that some teams rotate the captaincy annually, though others may adopt a permanent captain. As well as being an onfield leader, a captain takes the coin toss and raises the trophy when this is the game's prize. Responsibilities The captain leads the team out onto the pitch. Before the start of a match, a coin toss between captains of the opposing teams is used to determine which end of the ground each team will kick to. Ballybofey
Ballybofey ( , ; ) is a town located on the south bank of the River Finn, County Donegal, Ireland. Together with the smaller town of Stranorlar on the north side of the River Finn, the towns form the Twin Towns of Ballybofey-Stranorlar. Ballybofey-Stranorlar, a census town, had a population of 4,852 in 2016. History A few miles west of Ballybofey, on the main road to Fintown (the R252 regional road), is the Glenmore Estate, located at Welchtown. The estate formerly included Glenmore Lodge, a country house that stood on the opposite, southern bank of the River Finn, near Glenmore Bridge. The 2012 All-Ireland Football Final, the 125th event of its kind and the culmination of the 2012 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, was played at Croke Park, Dublin, on 23 September 2012. Donegal and Mayo, widely considered "one of the most novel final pairings of all time", met to decide the destination of the Sam Maguire Cup, with Donegal ultimately emerging victorious as Mayo were yet again undone by "the curse". The 2012 Dr McKenna Cup was a Gaelic football competition played under the auspices of Ulster GAA. The tournament was won by Tyrone, their first McKenna title since 2007. The Ulster Senior Club Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition played between the top clubs in Ulster GAA. The trophy awarded to the winners is the Seamus McFerran Cup ( ga, Corn Shéamuis Mhic Fearáin). The winners and the Connacht, Leinster, Munster and London champions compete in the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. 2013 Donegal Senior Football Championship
The 2013 Donegal Senior Football Championship was contested by senior Gaelic football clubs under the auspices of Donegal GAA. Brian McEniff managed Réalt na Mara in the competition, taking over from Joe Keeney after his resignation and filling the position in his 71st year. Format The old format, which involved a two-legged first round, was scrapped in favour of an opening round containing four groups of four teams played out as a league and one team relegated. Two of the four teams in each group advanced to the quarter-finals after each have played the others once. Teams finishing bottom of their group played two relegation semi-finals. The losing relegation semi-final teams met in the relegation final.
