Gary L. Thomas is a game designer who has worked primarily on role-playing games. Career Gary Thomas and Joe D. Fugate Sr. started Digest Group Publications (DGP) together in 1986 as a business that they ran part-time while working as editors at other jobs. Fugate published articles in their magazine ''The Traveller's Digest'' which got the attention of Marc Miller at Game Designers' Workshop, who started a long-lasting working relationship between GDW and DGP by requesting Fugate and Thomas expand and revise the material in those articles, which GDW then published as the last of the small black rulebooks for ''Traveller'', '' Book 8: Robots'' (1986). Thomas wrote the first published '' MegaTraveller'' scenario, "Lion at Bay", which first appeared in ''The Traveller's Digest'' #9. Dungeons & Dragons Game Designers
A dungeon is a room or cell in which prisoners are held, especially underground. Dungeons are generally associated with medieval castles, though their association with torture probably belongs more to the Renaissance period. An oubliette (from french ''oublier'' meaning to ''forget'') or bottle dungeon is a basement room which is accessible only from a hatch or hole (an ''angstloch'') in a high ceiling. Victims in oubliettes were often left to starve and dehydrate to death, making the practice akin to—and some say an actual variety of—immurement. Etymology The word ''dungeon'' comes from French ''donjon'' (also spelled ''dongeon''), which means "keep", the main tower of a castle. The first recorded instance of the word in English was near the beginning of the 14th century when it held the same meaning as ''donjon''. Monstrous Compendium
The ''Monstrous Compendium'' is a series of accessories for the ''Advanced Dungeons & Dragons'' fantasy role-playing game released from 1989 to 1998. The title was then used for a series of 5th Edition ''Dungeons & Dragons'' supplements released on D&D Beyond. Volumes MC1 ''Monstrous Compendium, Volume One'' was published by TSR in 1989. It was written by the TSR staff, with a cover by Jeff Easley, and interior illustrations by Jim Holloway, and came boxed with 144 loose-leaf pages and eight color cardstock dividers (each with a color painting on it) in a three-ring binder. This supplement was the basic monster book containing all the adversaries needed for a typical campaign using 2nd edition ''AD&D'' rules. The Book Of Lairs II
''The Book of Lairs'' is an accessory book for the '' Dungeons & Dragons'' fantasy role-playing game, first published by TSR in 1986. It contains an assortment of monster-themed mini-adventures. A second volume was published in 1987. TSR coded the accessories REF3 and REF4 respectively, as part of a series of similarly-coded accessories. Both volumes were received well by critics, with the second being seen more positively than the first. Publication history ''The Book of Lairs'' was first published for the '' Dungeons & Dragons'' game system by TSR in 1986 as a ninety-six page volume. TSR, Inc. was an American game publishing company, best known as the original publisher of ''Dungeons & Dragons'' (''D&D''). Its earliest incarnation, Tactical Studies Rules, was founded in October 1973 by Gary Gygax and Don Kaye. Gygax had been unable to find a publisher for ''D&D'', a new type of game he and Dave Arneson were co-developing, so founded the new company with Kaye to self-publish their products. Needing financing to bring their new game to market, Gygax and Kaye brought in Brian Blume in December as an equal partner. ''Dungeons & Dragons'' is generally considered the first tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG), and established the genre. When Kaye died suddenly in 1975, the Tactical Studies Rules partnership restructured into TSR Hobbies, Inc. and accepted investment from Blume's father Melvin.
