Garth Mulroy
Garth David Mulroy (born 8 July 1978) is a South African professional golfer. Amateur career Mulroy was born in Durban. He attended college in the United States at North Carolina State University, where he was an NCAA Division I All-American. He turned professional in 2002. Professional career Mulroy has predominantly tried to make his way as a professional in the United States, and has collected several victories on various mini-tours. He finished tied for 64th at the PGA Tour qualifying school at the end of 2006, earning a place on the Nationwide Tour for 2007. He has played on the second tier United States based tour since then, winning for the first time in April 2009 when he secured a one stroke victory over Chris Tidland at the South Georgia Classic. The Joburg Open is a men's professional golf tournament that is held in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is an event on the Southern Africa-based Sunshine Tour and co-sanctioned by the European Tour, which attracts a larger prize fund and stronger fields. It is one of several tournaments in South Africa on the European Tour's international schedule, and until 2017 was one of the events where high-finishing players earned entry into The Open Championship if not already exempt. Christopher Gary Williams (born 20 March 1959) is an English-born golfer who currently lives in South Africa. Williams has won seven times on the Sunshine Tour. Professional career Williams was born in Liverpool, England. He moved to Johannesburg, South Africa shortly before turning professional in 1978. He joined the Sunshine Tour in 1985, and won his first title; the Lexington PGA Championship, during his debut season. He has won six more events on the Sunshine Tour since then. James Bongani Kamte (born 20 July 1982), nicknamed "Cobra", is a South African professional golfer. He has played on the Sunshine Tour, Challenge Tour, European Tour, and Asian Tour. He earned his tour card for the 2008 European Tour season by finishing in the top 30 of the qualifying school. 2008 Sunshine Tour
The 2008 Sunshine Tour was the ninth season of professional golf tournaments since the southern Africa based Sunshine Tour was relaunched in 2000, and the second since the tour switched a calendar based season in 2007. The Sunshine Tour represents the highest level of competition for male professional golfers in the region. The tour was based predominantly in South Africa, with 26 of the 30 tournaments being held in the country. Two events were held in Swaziland, with one each in Zambia and Namibia. There were two new tournaments, The Africa Open, which the tour hopes will become "Africa's Major" in the future, and the BMG Classic, founded by the Bearing Man Group, who wished to continue their involvement with the tour following the end of their long run as title sponsors of the Highveld Classic. 2008 European Tour
The 2008 European Tour was the 37th golf season since the European Tour officially began in 1972. The season began in November 2007 and consisted of 50 official money events, a drop of two from the previous year. This included seven major championships and World Golf Championships, which are also sanctioned by the PGA Tour. 27 events took place in Europe, 11 in Asia, six in the United States, four in South Africa, one in Australia and one in New Zealand. The Order of Merit was won by Robert Karlsson, the first Swedish golfer to do so. George Murray (golfer)
George Murray (born 10 June 1983) is a Scottish professional golfer. Murray was born in Anstruther, Fife and after a successful amateur career, turned professional in 2006 when he reached the final stage of the European Tour Qualifying School. This result qualified him for the Challenge Tour where he won for the first time in 2010 at the Scottish Hydro Challenge. The win helped him to a top ten end of season ranking which earned him a place on the European Tour for 2011. On 4 October 2011, Murray finished third in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews, Scotland - his highest finish on the European Tour. The Alfred Dunhill Championship is a men's professional golf tournament which is played in South Africa. It is part of the Southern African Sunshine Tour and is one of several events in South Africa that are co-sanctioned by the more prestigious European Tour. History The tournament was founded in 2000, but its origins lie in Dunhill's sponsorship of the South African PGA Championship between 1995 and 1999. Following the 1999 Alfred Dunhill PGA Championship, the company decided to discontinue their association with the South African PGA, and create their own stand alone tournament. The first event was held in January 2000 at the Houghton Golf Club in Johannesburg, and replaced the South African PGA Championship on the European Tour calendar.
