Gareth A. Morris
Gareth Alun Morris FRS (born 6 July 1954) is a Professor of Physical Chemistry, in the School of Chemistry at the University of Manchester. Education Morris was educated at the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle and the University of Oxford where he was a student of Magdalen College, Oxford. He was awarded a Master of Arts degree followed by a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1978. Research Research in the NMR lab along with Mathias Nilsson, Jordi Burés and Ralph Adams involves the development of novel nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy techniques, and their application to problems in chemistry, biochemistry, and medicine. In Fourier transform NMR spectroscopy and imaging, a pulse sequence describes a series of radio frequency pulses applied to the sample, such that the free induction decay is related to the characteristic frequencies of the desired signals. After applying a Fourier transform, the signal can be represented in the frequency domain as the NMR spectrum. In magnetic resonance imaging, additional '' gradient pulses'' are applied by switching magnetic fields that exhibit a space-dependent gradient which can be used to reconstruct spatially resolved images after applying Fourier transforms. Deuterium (or hydrogen-2, symbol or deuterium, also known as heavy hydrogen) is one of two Stable isotope ratio, stable isotopes of hydrogen (the other being Hydrogen atom, protium, or hydrogen-1). Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, most commonly known as NMR spectroscopy or magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), is a spectroscopic technique to observe local magnetic fields around atomic nuclei. The sample is placed in a magnetic field and the NMR signal is produced by excitation of the nuclei sample with radio waves into nuclear magnetic resonance, which is detected with sensitive radio receivers. Jordi Burés
Jordi Burés is a Full Professor of Organic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at The University of Manchester. His research in general is on the areas of organic and physical chemistry, specializing in Mechanistic Studies, nuclear magnetic resonance and catalysis. Education Burés completed his Bachelor of Science at University of Barcelona in 2003. He then continued to pursue his MRes and his Doctor of Philosophy degrees in the same university with Jaume Vilarrasa and successfully completed it in 2009. Mathias Nilsson is a Swedish chemist and a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at The University of Manchester.
