Garden East
Garden East ( ur, گارڈ ن ایسٹ ) is a neighborhood in Karachi East district of Karachi, Pakistan. It is administered as part of Jamshed Town, which was disbanded in 2011 but later restored in early 2022. This area surrounds the Karachi Zoological Gardens (former name Gandhi Garden) hence it is popularly known as Gardens. The area has a large presence of Ismailis due to their Jama'at Khana (or prayer hall) being located there. The area was predominantly residential but over the last few years, smaller commercial areas have grown to cater needs of residents. Karachi East
Karachi East District ( ur, ) is an administrative district of Karachi Division in Sindh, Pakistan. Map of Karachi Division History The district was established in 1972. The district was abolished in 2000, and was divided into four towns namely: * Gulshan Town * Jamshed Town * Gulzar-e-Hijri Town * Faisal Cantonment * Feroz Abad Town. On 11 July 2015, the Sindh Government restored again Karachi East District. In November 2013, three eastern towns of Karachi East District separated to form a new District named Korangi also Jamshed Town of Karachi South District was added into this district. Now Karachi East comprises two towns: Jamshed and Gulshan. Demographics At the time of the 2017 census, Karachi East district had a population of 2,875,315, of which 1,506,788 were males and 1,368,002 females. The entire population was urban. Pakistan Standard Time ( ur, , abbreviated as PKT) is UTC+05:00 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time. The time zone is in use during standard time in Asia. History Pakistan had been following UTC+05:30 since 1907 (during the British Raj) and continued using it after independence in 1947. On 15 September 1951, following the findings of mathematician Mahmood Anwar, two time zones were introduced. Jamshed Town
Jamshed Town ( sd, جمشيد ٽائون , ur, ) lies in the central part of Karachi, Pakistan. To the northwest is Liaquatabad Town across the Lyari River, while to the east is Gulshan Town and to the southeast is Korangi Town across the Malir River. Jamshed is bordered by Karachi Cantonment and Clifton Cantonment to the west. The population of Jamshed Town was estimated to be about 730,000 at the 1998 census, of which 99% are Muslim. Urdu speaking constitute an overwhelming majority of the population. History Jamshed Town was named after Jamshed Nusserwanjee Mehta. Karachi Zoological Gardens
The Karachi Zoo ( ur, ; sd, ڪراچي زو چڙيا گهر), also known as Karachi Zoological and Botanical Gardens, formerly known as Gandhi Garden, is located in Garden West, Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. Established in 1799, it is the largest zoo of Pakistan and second oldest zoo in the country after Lahore Zoo. Ismailis
Isma'ilism ( ar, الإسماعيلية, al-ʾIsmāʿīlīyah) is a branch or sub-sect of Shia Islam. The Isma'ili () get their name from their acceptance of Imam Isma'il ibn Jafar as the appointed spiritual successor (imām) to Ja'far al-Sadiq, wherein they differ from the Twelver Shia, who accept Musa al-Kadhim, the younger brother of Isma'il, as the true Imām. Isma'ilism rose at one point to become the largest branch of Shia Islam, climaxing as a political power with the Fatimid Caliphate in the 10th through 12th centuries.
