Ganemos Madrid
Ganemos Madrid (Spanish for Let's Win Madrid) is a political movement in Madrid with a candidature represented in the municipal council. Alongside other Ganemos groups around Spain, many of its claimed principles are aligned with municipalism. History Ganemos Madrid was born on June 28, 2014, from the Municipalia discussion space, which was primarily a location to discuss the creation of a “citizen candidacy” to be presented at the 2015 municipal elections... Libertarian Municipalism
Murray Bookchin (January 14, 1921 – July 30, 2006) was an American social theorist, author, orator, historian, and political philosopher. A pioneer in the environmental movement, Bookchin formulated and developed the theory of social ecology and urban planning within anarchist, libertarian socialist, and ecological thought. He was the author of two dozen books covering topics in politics, philosophy, history, urban affairs, and social ecology. Among the most important were ''Our Synthetic Environment'' (1962), ''Post-Scarcity Anarchism'' (1971), '' The Ecology of Freedom'' (1982) and ''Urbanization Without Cities'' (1987). Podemos (, translated in English as "We Can"), * ca, Podem, * gl, Podemos, is a left-wing populist political party in Spain. Part of the anti-austerity movement in Spain, it was founded in January 2014 by political scientist Pablo Iglesias Turrión and other academics in the aftermath of the 15-M Movement protests against inequality and corruption. In the 2014 European Parliament election in Spain, Podemos won 8.0% of the vote and five seats. Ahora Madrid ( en, Madrid Now) was a citizen platform of popular unity, formed as an ''instrumental party without organic internal life'', in order to stand for the municipal elections of 2015 in the city of Madrid. For this project, '' Ganemos Madrid'', a citizen platform inspired by ''Guanyem Barcelona'' (now called Barcelona en Comú) and the parties Equo, Podemos and PUM+J joined forces. Equo
Greens Equo (and formerly Q or eQuo) is a Spanish political party founded on 4 June 2011, when 35 Spanish green parties agreed to merge into Equo. It began as a foundation on 24 September 2010 with the goal of becoming "the seed and source of debate about political ecology and social equity, originating a sociopolitical movement". The first election it contested was the 2011 Spanish general election, obtaining 216,748 votes (0.9%), making it the 9th most supported party. The party was fifth in Madrid, achieving representation thanks to the Valencian coalition Compromís-Q, in which Equo participated. United Left ( es, Izquierda Unida , IU) is a federative political movement in Spain that was first organized as a coalition in 1986, bringing together several left-wing political organizations, most notably the Communist Party of Spain. IU was founded as an electoral coalition of seven parties, but the Communist Party of Spain (PCE) is the only remaining integrated member of the IU at the national level. Despite that, IU brings together other regional parties, political organizations, and independents. It currently takes the form of a permanent federation of parties. Manuela Carmena Castrillo (; born in 1944) is a retired Spanish lawyer and judge who served as Mayor of Madrid from June 2015 to June 2019. She was a member of the General Council of the Judiciary. Biography Early life She was born on 9 February 1944 in Madrid, in the area near the Dehesa de la Villa. Both sides of her family had a background in small business: her father Carmelo (a native of Toledo) ran a shirt shop at the corner of Gran Vía and Chinchilla Street in central Madrid. Her mother, meanwhile, worked as a cashier. She attended the French School of the Black Ladies. During her time as a student, Carmena served as voluntary worker in a preserves factory run by the Servicio Universitario del Trabajo. Municipalization
Municipalization is the transfer of private entities, assets, service providers, or corporations to public ownership by a municipality, including (but not limited to) a city, county, or public utility district ownership. The transfer may be from private ownership (usually by purchase) or from other levels of government. It is the opposite of privatization and is different from nationalization. The term municipalization largely refers to the transfer of ownership of utilities from Investor Owned Utilities (IOUs) to public ownership, and operation, by local government whether that be at the city, county or state level. While this is most often applied to electricity it can also refer to solar energy, water, sewer, trash, natural gas or other services. Between 2006 and 2016, there have been 13 different communities in the United States that have successfully switched from an IOU to a municipal utility.
