Gander—Twillingate was a federal electoral district in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 1988. This riding was created in 1966 from parts of Bonavista—Twillingate and Grand Falls—White Bay—Labrador ridings. It was abolished in 1987 when it was redistributed into Bonavista—Trinity—Conception and Gander—Grand Falls ridings. It initially consisted of the provincial districts of Gander, Lewisporte, Twillingate, Fogo and Bonavista North, and the parts of the provincial districts of Green Bay, Bonavista South and Fortune Bay not included in the electoral districts of Grand Falls White Bay-Labrador, Bonavista-Trinity-Conception and Burin-Burgeo. Bonavista—Twillingate was a federal electoral district in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1949 to 1968. This riding was created in 1949 when Newfoundland joined the Canadian Confederation. It was abolished in 1966 when it was redistributed into Bonavista—Trinity—Conception, Burin—Burgeo, Gander—Twillingate and Grand Falls—White Bay—Labrador ridings. It initially consisted of the Districts of Twillingate, Fogo, Bonavista North, and Bonavista South excluding any part of the territory within a radius of five miles from the railway station at Gander. Gander—Grand Falls was a federal electoral district in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1988 to 2004. This riding was created in 1987 from parts of Gander—Twillingate and Grand Falls—White Bay—Labrador ridings. It was abolished in 2003 when it was redistributed into Bonavista—Exploits, Humber—St. Barbe—Baie Verte and Random—Burin—St. George's ridings. John Lundrigan
John Howard Lundrigan (January 10, 1939 – March 5, 2009) was a Canadian politician, who represented the electoral district of Gander—Twillingate in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 1974. He was a member of the Progressive Conservative caucus. In his parliamentary career, Lundrigan is best remembered for having been on the receiving end of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau's famous "fuddle duddle" comment of 1971. In the 1974 election, Lundrigan ran in the district of Bonavista—Trinity—Conception, but was defeated by that riding's incumbent MP, Dave Rooney. George Baker (Canadian Politician)
George S. Baker (born September 4, 1942) is a Canadian politician and former member of the Senate of Canada. Baker was first elected to the House of Commons in the 1974 election as the Liberal Member of Parliament (MP) for Gander—Twillingate, in Newfoundland and Labrador. He was re-elected in every subsequent election (representing Gander—Grand Falls after 1988) until his appointment to the Senate by Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, on the recommendation of Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, in 2002. Although a popular and articulate MP, he was hurt by the tradition of appointing no more than one Canadian Cabinet minister from Newfoundland at a time, and by his reputation as a maverick who said what he thought rather than what the party leadership would like him to say. Labrador (formerly known as Grand Falls—White Bay—Labrador and Grand Falls—White Bay) is a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1949. The Riding (country subdivision)#Canada, riding covers all of Labrador and with just 26,000 people located in the riding it is the least populous in Canada. From 2005 to 2011, the riding was represented by Liberal Party of Canada, Liberal MP Todd Russell. A member of parliament (MP) is the representative in parliament of the people who live in their electoral district.
