Game Gear
The is an 8-bit fourth generation handheld game console released by Sega on October 6, 1990, in Japan, in April 1991 throughout North America and Europe, and during 1992 in Australia. The Game Gear primarily competed with Nintendo's Game Boy, the Atari Lynx, and NEC's TurboExpress. It shares much of its hardware with the Master System, and can play Master System games by the use of an adapter. Sega positioned the Game Gear, which had a full-color backlit screen with a landscape format, as a technologically superior handheld to the Game Boy. Though the Game Gear was rushed to market, its unique game library and price point gave it an edge over the Atari Lynx and TurboExpress. However, due to its short battery life, lack of original games, and weak support from Sega, the Game Gear was unable to surpass the Game Boy, selling 10.62 million units by March 1996. Acclaim Entertainment was an American video game publisher from Long Island, active from 1987 until filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on September 1, 2004. Through a series of acquisitions between 1990 and 2002, Acclaim built itself a large portfolio of subsidiaries acting in the fields of development and publishing. ''Asterix and the Great Rescue'' is a video game released by Sega for the Genesis/Mega Drive in 1993 and for the Game Gear and Master System in 1994. Plot This game is based on the long-running, French comic book series ''Asterix the Gaul''. The characters Asterix and Obelix must rescue Getafix (Panoramix) and Dogmatix (Idéfix) from the Romans, who are in the process of taking over Gaul. Gameplay It is a side-scrolling platform game. The startup screen offers a choice of difficulty level, as well as the ability to turn off the music and/or sound effects. The Master System and Game Gear versions allows changing characters during a level, whereas the Mega Drive/Genesis version removes this feature in favor of allowing choosing characters at the start of a level. Ariel The Little Mermaid
''Disney's Ariel the Little Mermaid'', usually shorted to simply ''Ariel the Little Mermaid'', is a 1992 video game developed by Blue Sky Software for the Sega Genesis, Game Gear and Master System, based on the 1989 film ''The Little Mermaid.'' A Master System version was released exclusively in Brazil by Tec Toy. Gameplay In ''Ariel the Little Mermaid'', the players controls either Ariel or King Triton in a similar way to ''Ecco the Dolphin'' (1992). In the game, their mission is to rid Ursula's spell on the Atlantica kingdom, which has turned the mermaid population into polyps. Depending on which character is chosen, Ariel will also have to save Triton from Ursula, or Triton vice versa. There are four stages, each requiring the player to collect polyps before fighting a boss. The first level is a reef maze with sharks, clams and eels as foes. Eden Games (formerly known as Eden Studios) is a French video game developer based in Lyon, France, that mainly focuses on the development of racing video games. History The company was formed as a development group within Infogrames' European subsidiary Infogrames Multimedia, which had developed the first ''V-Rally'' for the PlayStation. The studio would later rebrand into its own separate studio, known as Eden Studios, with Infogrames holding a 19.2% minority share. In April 2002, Infogrames fully acquired Eden Studios. ''Arch Rivals'' is a basketball sports video game released by Midway for arcades in 1989. Billed by Midway as "A Basket Brawl", the game features two-on-two full court basketball games in which players are encouraged to punch opposing players and steal the ball from them. ''Arch Rivals'' was the second basketball video game released by Midway, sixteen years after ''TV Basketball'' (1974). ''Arch Rivals'' allows players to select from a variety of fictional teams (although arcade operators can change the team names to reflect real ones) and players.
