Galya Novents
Galya Novents ( hy, Գալյա Նովենց; 1 July 1937 – 22 July 2012) was a Soviet and Armenian stage and film actress, one of the most prominent Armenian actresses of the 20th century. Biography Galya Novents was born on 1 July 1937 in Yerevan. In 1958, she graduated from Yerevan Institute of Fine Arts and Theatre. The 42nd Venice International Film Festival gave her a special mention for Best Actress, which was not awarded. In 2007, Novents was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Republic of Armenia. ''A Piece of Sky'' ( A Slap in the Face) ( hy, Կտոր մը երկինք; russian: Пощёчина) is a 1980 Soviet comedy film directed by Henrik Malyan, based on Vahan Totovents's story "Light Blue Flowers". It is a societal critique told through the love story between Torik, a shy outcast saddle maker, and Anjel, a prostitute. Plot Orphaned young Torik is adopted by his aunt, Turnanta, and uncle, Grigor-agha. His uncle tries to interest in his profession, making saddles for donkeys, but the boy dreams only of freedom from Armenia's repressive society of the 1930s. ''Nahapet'' ( hy, Նահապետ) is a 1977 Soviet Armenian-language drama film about a man who tries to rebuild his life after losing his wife and child in the Armenian genocide. It is based on a novel written by Hrachya Qochar. The film has been cited as an example of the portrayal of genocide in the film industry. The film was screened in the Un Certain Regard section of the 1978 Cannes Film Festival. Plot The film centres on the life of a strong-willed Armenian fighter Nahapet (Sos Sargsyan).
