Galopin Des Champs (foaled 12 May 2016) is a French-bred Irish-Trained thoroughbred racehorse competing in National Hunt racing. He won the 2023 Cheltenham Gold Cup, ridden by his regular jockey Paul Townend. Background Galopin Des Champs is a black gelding who was bred in France by Hubert Bunel, under the nom de plume of G A E C Des Champs. He was sired by Timos and his dam is Manon Des Champs. Racing career 2020/21 season On 17 May 2020, Galopin Des Champs won on debut in his native France at Auteuil Hippodrome, Auteuil before he was sold to Mrs Audrey Turley in November 2020 and was transferred to the yard of Willie Mullins in Ireland. Punchestown Gold Cup
The Punchestown Gold Cup is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase in Ireland which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run at Punchestown over a distance of about 3 miles and ½ furlong (3 miles and 120 yards, or ), and during its running there are seventeen fences to be jumped. The race is scheduled to take place each year during the Punchestown Festival in late April or early May. The present version of the race was introduced in 1999, when it replaced a previous version for novice chasers only. It was formerly sponsored by Heineken, and it used to be known as the Heineken Gold Cup. It was backed by Diageo between 2005 and 2011, and from 2011 to 2014 sponsored by Tote Ireland. Leopardstown Racecourse
Leopardstown Racecourse is an Ireland, Irish horse-racing venue, located in Leopardstown, Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, 8 km south of the Dublin city centre. Like the majority of Irish courses, it hosts both National Hunt and Flat racing. The course, built by Captain George Quin and modelled on Sandown Park Racecourse in England, was completed in 1888 and acquired by the Horse Racing Ireland, Horse Racing Board of Ireland in 1967. Punchestown Racecourse
Punchestown Racecourse is located in the parish of Eadestown, between the R410 and R411 Regional road (Ireland), regional roads near Naas, County Kildare, in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is known as the home of Irish Jumps Racing and plays host to the annual Punchestown Irish National Hunt Festival.
