Galina Chistyakova
Galina Valentinovna Chistyakova (russian: Галина Валентиновна Чистякова, sk, Galina Čisťaková; born 26 July 1962) is a retired athlete who represented the Soviet Union and later Slovakia. She is the current world record holder in the long jump, jumping 7.52 metres on 11 June 1988. She is the 1988 Olympic bronze medalist and the 1989 World Indoor champion. She is also a former world record holder (pre IAAF) in the triple jump with 14.52 metres in 1989. Biography Born in Izmail, Ukrainian SSR, Chistyakova trained at Burevestnik in Moscow. Competing in long jump, Galina Chistyakova won the 1985 European Indoor Championships and a silver medal at the European Championships one year later. In 1988 she managed to win an Olympic bronze medal in Seoul as well as jumping 7.52 metres, the current world record for women. Izmail
Izmail (, , translit. ''Izmail,'' formerly Тучков ("Tuchkov"); ro, Ismail or ''Smil''; pl, Izmaił, bg, Исмаил) is a city and municipality on the Danube river in Odesa Oblast in south-western Ukraine. It serves as the administrative center of Izmail Raion, one of seven districts of Odesa Oblast, and is the only locality which constitutes Izmail urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. In Russian historiography, Izmail is associated with the 18th century sacking of Ottoman fortress of Izmail by Russian general Alexander Suvorov. It is the largest Ukrainian port in the Danube Delta, on its Chilia branch. As such, Izmail is a center of the food processing industry and a popular regional tourist destination. Triple Jump World Record Progression
The following table shows the world record progression in the men's and women's triple jump, officially ratified by the IAAF. Men The first world record in the men's triple jump was recognised by the International Association of Athletics Federations in 1912. That inaugural record was the 15.52 m performance by Dan Ahearn in 1911. As of June 21, 2009, 27 world records have been ratified by the IAAF in the event. The men's triple jump world record is unusual in that on five occasions a new record has been set and then broken again on the same day. Women The first world record in the women's triple jump was recognised by the International Association of Athletics Federations in 1990. Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running, and racewalking.
