Galician Independence
The Galician independence movement or the Galician separatist movement ( Galician: ''independentismo galego'') is a political movement (derived from Galician nationalism) which supports the independence of Galicia and ''Galicia irredenta'' (the claim of Galician-speaking territories outside the Autonomous Community of Galicia: As Portelas, O Bierzo, and Terra Eo-Navia) from Spain, plus the North Region from Portugal (''Gallaecia''). History Initiation The first realization was the organized political committee Comité Revoluzonareo Arredista Galego, formed by Fuco Gomez in Cuba in the 1920s, but during the Second Spanish Republic did not have much significance. The Spanish Republic (), commonly known as the Second Spanish Republic (), was the form of government in Spain from 1931 to 1939. The Republic was proclaimed on 14 April 1931, after the deposition of Alfonso XIII, King Alfonso XIII, and was dissolved on 1 April 1939 after surrendering in the Spanish Civil War to the Nationalist faction (Spanish Civil War), Nationalists led by General Francisco Franco. Elections to the European Parliament take place every five years by universal adult suffrage; with more than 400 million people eligible to vote, they are considered the second largest democratic elections in the world after India's. Until 2019, 751 MEPs were elected to the European Parliament, which has been directly elected since 1979. Since the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU in 2020, the number of MEPs, including the president, has been 705. Herri Batasuna
Herri Batasuna (; en, Popular Unity; HB) was a far-left Basque nationalist coalition in Spain. It was founded in 1978 and defined itself as abertzale, left-wing, socialist, and supported the independence of the Greater Basque Country. Galician Nationalist Bloc
The Galician Nationalist Bloc ( gl, Bloque Nacionalista Galego, BNG ) is a political alliance of left-wing Galician nationalist parties. It is self-defined as a "patriotic front". Formed in 1982, under the guidance of historical leader Xosé Manuel Beiras, the BNG calls for further devolution of powers to the Parliament of Galicia and the official and unambiguous recognition of Galicia as a nation. The BNG also promotes affirmative action for the Galician language. The current leader – president of the National Council and national spokesperson – is Ana Pontón. Communist Party of National Liberation (in Galician: ''Partido Comunista de Liberación Nacional'') was a separatist political party in Galicia, Spain. PCLN was founded on 25 July 1986 by the 22 March Communist Collective (''Colectivo Comunista 22 de marzo''). The collective had been launched earlier by 13 Central Committee members of the Galician People's Union (UPG) left UPG in protest of the decision of the Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG, the coalition led by UPG) to participate in the Galician parliament. Galician Party Of The Proletariat
The Galician Party of the Proletariat (PGP) was a party galician independentist and Marxist-Leninist party formed in March 1978, as a continuation of Galician People's Union-Proletarian Line, a split of the original Galician People's Union. The Central Committee was clandestine, and even the party militants didn't know the members of it. Tha party supported armed struggle, which considered as anti-imperialist and anti-oligarchic. Its official magazine was called Sempre en Galiza. History In 1979 Galician Unity included, as independent candidates, several militants of the PGP in their lists for the municipal elections. The Galician People's Union-Proletarian Line (UPG-lp) was a galician independentist and communist party that supported armed struggle. They edited the magazine '' Terra e Tempo''.Land and Time. The Galician People's Union ( gl, Unión do Povo Galego) is a Galician nationalist and communist political party, and is one of the registered political parties of Spain. The party publishes the magazine ''Terra e Tempo'', and the secretary general is Néstor Rego. It was founded in 1964 with the intention of the independence of Galicia and its transformation into a socialist state.
