Gaelic Players Association
The Gaelic Players Association ( ga, Cumann na n-Imreoirí Gaelacha), or GPA, is the officially recognised player representative body for inter county Gaelic footballers and Hurling, hurlers in Ireland. The GPA's aim is to promote and protect all aspects of player welfare and to provide an independent voice for players. The GPA was formed in 1999 when former IMG employee Donal O'Neill and a number of high-profile inter-county players, including Tyrone's Fergal Logan and Peter Canavan, Derry's Fergal McCusker and Dublin's Dessie Farrell were instrumental in the birth of the organisation. The association was launched in Belfast. Farrell became the first chairman in 2000 and was subsequently appointed as full-time chief executive of the GPA in 2003. Farrell and O'Neill helped secure a sponsorship deal with drinks manufacturer C&C (now Britvic) in 2003, which underpinned the growth and development of the GPA as a self-funded, not-for-profit organisation. GPA Logo
Grading in education is the process of applying standardized measurements for varying levels of achievements in a course. Grades can be assigned as letters (usually A through F), as a range (for example, 1 to 6), as a percentage, or as a number out of a possible total (often out of 100). The Sports Surgery Clinic (SSC), located in Santry, Dublin, Ireland, is a private hospital focused on orthopaedic surgery, and orthopaedic, spinal, sports, and exercise-related injuries. The Communications Clinic is an Irish communications company on Adelaide Road in Dublin, set up by former employees of Carr Communications. The company's work involves public relations, interview and media coaching. History The company was set up by Terry Prone and Tom Savage. Club Energise
Club is the brand name for a series of Irish carbonated soft drinks produced in Ireland by Britvic Ireland and previously by Cantrell & Cochrane (C&C). It is bottled by the Britvic plant in Dublin. The series includes Club Orange, Club Lemon, Club Rock Shandy (a mixture of the orange and lemon flavours) and Club Apple soft drinks. Christy Cooney
Christy Cooney (Irish: Críostóir Ó Cuana, born 1952 in Youghal, County Cork, Ireland) is a Gaelic games administrator, who served as the 36th president of the Gaelic Athletic Association. He was elected president at the annual GAA Congress on 12 April 2008 and succeeded Nickey Brennan in the post in 2009 - becoming the 36th president of the GAA. In the GAA Annual Congress in 2005, Nickey Brennan was voted as the new GAA president, only 17 votes ahead of Cooney. Brennan's election was seen as a surprise by some and Cooney thought he had gathered enough support among delegates to secure the position. GPA Hurler Of The Year
The GPA Hurler of the Year is a hurling award that honours the achievements of a hurler of outstanding excellence. At the end of every All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, Hurling Championship the members of the Gaelic Players Association, the players 'union', vote on which of its members has played the best hurling in the previous year. As the award is voted on by the players it is often viewed as one of the greatest individual honours. Unlike other Gaelic Athletic Association awards the GPA Hurler of the Year is presented with a new car. In September 2011 the All Stars Hurler of the Year, GAA and GPA announced that their respective annual player awards schemes were to merge under the sponsorship of Opel. The GPA Footballer of the Year was awarded annually by the Gaelic Players Association, as part of the Opel Gaelic Players awards scheme, established in 2006. History The title was first awarded in 2001, at the foundation of the association, and was first sponsored in 2005, also by Opel. The award honoured the achievements of a Gaelic footballer of outstanding excellence for each season. At the end of the Football Championship the association members voted on for the award recipient.
