Gabrovnitsa Air Base
Gabrovnitsa Air Base ( bg, авиобаза Габровница) or 2nd Fighter Air Base is a former Bulgarian Air Force air base. It was built outside Gabrovnitsa near Montana in north western Bulgaria. The base was home to the 11th FAR, then the 2nd Sqn of the 18th FAR, 1st Air Defence Division. It closed in 1998 and was demolished. Gabrovnitsa, Montana Province
Gabrovnitsa ( bg, Габровница) is a village in northwestern Bulgaria. It is located in the municipality of Montana in the Montana Province, from the district center. The Vidin - Sofia railway lines passes through the village. Below the line is the village itself and over the line is the military airport, which is now abandoned. The Bulgarian Air Force ( bg, Военновъздушни сили, Voennovazdushni sili) is one of the three branches of the Military of Bulgaria, the other two being the Bulgarian Navy and Bulgarian land forces. DAFIF () or the ''Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File'' is a comprehensive database of up-to-date aeronautical data, including information on airports, airways, airspaces, navigation data, and other facts relevant to flying in the entire world, managed by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) of the United States. Withdrawal of public access DAFIF was publicly available until October 2006 through the Internet; however, it was closed to public access because "increased numbers of foreign source providers are claiming intellectual property rights or are forewarning NGA that they intend to copyright their source". History After World War II, Bulgaria had no civil aviation or airplanes to service senior state administration and implementation of specific government tasks.
