GMH Railway Station
GMH Elizabeth railway station was a former station that spurred off the Gawler line. The station was located within the General Motors Holden car manufacturing factory in the northern Adelaide suburb of Elizabeth South. The start of the spur was approximately halfway between the Elizabeth South and Nurlutta stations. It closed in 1992, and the station was demolished, but some of the track that leads to the station is still intact. As of 20 January 2011, the line itself has now been covered over leaving only bits of the line intact near GMH and towards the Gawler line. Primarily an industrial station, it was only served by trains during shift change times at Holden. There were two platforms of step-down construction. Elizabeth South, South Australia
Elizabeth South is a northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia in the City of Playford. It was established in the late 1950s as one of the earliest residential suburbs of the planned City of Elizabeth. As for its neighbours including Elizabeth and Elizabeth North, it was configured as a local community around a small shopping centre containing a supermarket, bank, hotel and service station along with other shops. The western boundary is the Gawler railway line, with predominantly current and former Defence land on the other side, including the South Australian branch of the Defence Science and Technology Group opposite Elizabeth South railway station. Adelaide Railway Station
Adelaide Railway Station is the central terminus of the Adelaide Metro railway system. All lines approach the station from the west, and it is a terminal station with no through lines, with most of the traffic on the metropolitan network either departing or terminating here. It has nine platforms, all using broad gauge track. It is located on the north side of North Terrace, west of Parliament House. The Adelaide Casino occupies part of the building that is no longer required for railway use. Holden, formerly known as General Motors-Holden, was an Australian subsidiary company of General Motors. It was an Australian automobile manufacturer, importer, and exporter which sold cars under its own marque in Australia. In its last three years, it switched entirely to importing cars. Elizabeth South railway station is located on the Gawler line. Situated on the border of northern Adelaide suburbs of Elizabeth South and Edinburgh, it is from Adelaide station. Salisbury Railway Station, Adelaide
Salisbury railway station is a railway station and bus interchange in the northern Adelaide suburb of Salisbury. It is on the Gawler line, from Adelaide station. Adjoining it is a large park & ride carpark, making it one of the busiest stations on the Adelaide suburban rail system. History The railway line through Salisbury opened in June 1857, initially running north as far as Smithfield. The line was extended to Gawler and Kapunda in 1860 and Burra by 1870 to exploit the copper mining boom in those areas.
