GEXcel International Collegium For Advanced Transdisciplinary Gender Studies
The GEXcel International Collegium for Advanced Transdisciplinary Gender Studies is an inter-university centre of excellence in gender studies based in Sweden, which "aims to develop transnational, intersectional and transformative gender research, and to become a meeting place for different generations of excellent gender scholars." It is hosted by the Center for Feminist Social Studies at Örebro University, Linköping University and Karlstad University. It was established in 2012, as the permanent continuation of the Centre of Gender Excellence (GEXcel), that was established by the Swedish Research Council at Örebro University and Linköping University in 2006, and that existed until the end of 2013. A center of excellence (COE or CoE ), also called excellence center, is a team, a shared facility or an entity that provides leadership, best practices, research, support or training for a focus area. Jeff Hearn
Jeffery Richard (Jeff) Hearn (born 5 August 1947) is a British sociologist, and Research Professor at the University of Huddersfield, and Professor at the Hanken School of Economics. Biography Hearn obtained his MA at the University of Oxford in 1973 and another MA in Organisational Sociology at the University of Leeds in 1974, and his PhD in Social Theory, Social Planning and Theories of Patriarchy at the University of Bradford in 1986. Dame Teresa Lesley Rees, DBE, FAcSS, FLSW (11 June 1949 – 22 September 2023) was a British social scientist, and a professor at Cardiff University. Nina Lykke
Nina Lykke (born 1949) is a Danish–Swedish gender studies scholar. She is noted for her work on feminist theory, and is distinguished professor of gender studies at Linköping University in Sweden. Biography Nina Lykke was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. She received a mag.art. (PhD) degree in literature at the University of Copenhagen in 1981 and a dr.phil. (higher doctoral degree) in gender studies at Odense University, Denmark in 1992. From 1984 until 1999 she was director of the Centre for Women's and Gender Studies, the first of its kind in Denmark, at the University of Southern Denmark. Michael Kimmel
Michael Scott Kimmel (born February 26, 1951) is an American retired sociologist specializing in gender studies. He was Distinguished Professor of Sociology at Stony Brook University in New York and is the founder and editor of the academic journal ''Men and Masculinities''. Kimmel is a spokesman of the National Organization for Men Against Sexism (NOMAS) and a longtime feminist. Sheila Jeffreys (born 13 May 1948) is a former professor of political science at the University of Melbourne, born in England. A lesbian feminist scholar, she analyses the history and politics of human sexuality. Jeffreys' argument that the "sexual revolution" on men's terms contributed less to women's freedom than to their continued oppression has both commanded respect and attracted intense criticism.
