Günther Rötter
Günther Rötter (born 1954) is a German musicologist and music psychologist. Life and career Born in , Rötter studied school music, educational science and philosophy in Detmold and Paderborn as well as musicology, psychology and philosophy at Technische Universität Berlin. There, he received his doctorate in 1985 under the direction of Helga de la Motte-Haber on the subject: Die Beeinflussbarkeit emotionalen Erlebens von Musik durch analytisches Hören.'' From 1989 to 1994, he was a research assistant at the University of Münster. After a professorship at the University of Vechta and the habilitation in 1996, Günther Rötter received a professorship for musicology at the Technische Universität Dortmund. From 2006 to 2014, he was dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sports Sciences there. Rötter's research focus is on the psychology of music. Musicology (from Greek μουσική ''mousikē'' 'music' and -λογια ''-logia'', 'domain of study') is the scholarly analysis and research-based study of music. Musicology departments traditionally belong to the humanities, although some music research is scientific in focus (psychological, sociological, acoustical, neurological, computational). Some geographers and anthropologists have an interest in musicology so the social sciences also have an academic interest. A scholar who participates in musical research is a musicologist. Carl Stumpf
Carl Stumpf (; 21 April 1848 – 25 December 1936) was a German philosopher, psychologist and musicologist. He is noted for founding the Berlin School of Experimental Psychology. He studied with Franz Brentano at the University of Würzburg before receiving his doctorate at the University of Göttingen in 1868. He also tutored the modernist literature writer Robert Musil at the University of Berlin, and worked with Hermann Lotze, who is famous for his work in perception, at Göttingen. Stumpf is known for his work on the ''psychology of tones''. He had an important influence on his students Wolfgang Köhler and Kurt Koffka who were instrumental in the founding of ''Gestalt'' psychology as well as Kurt Lewin, who was also a part of the Gestalt group and was key in the establishment of experimental social psychology in America. Systematic Musicology
Systematic musicology is an umbrella term, used mainly in Central Europe, for several subdisciplines and paradigms of musicology. "Systematic musicology has traditionally been conceived of as an interdisciplinary science, whose aim it is to explore the foundations of music from different points of view, such as acoustics, physiology, psychology, anthropology, music theory, sociology, and aesthetics." Wolfram Goertz (born 1961) is a German journalist, musician and musicologist. He coordinates the special outpatient clinic for musician medicine at the University Hospital of Düsseldorf. Education Goertz was born in Mönchengladbach. After he passed his Abitur in 1980 at the , he studied musicology and philosophy in Cologne and Bochum as well as church music and medicine (doctoral studies) at the RWTH Aachen.
