Gündoğdu Square
Gündoğdu Square () is a city square in İzmir, Turkey. Located within between the neighborhoods of Alsancak and Konak, it marks the center-point of the Kordon esplanade. At the center of the square is the ''Tree of the Republic Statue'' () to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. Located within one of the city's two most famous parks, it is a major meeting point for people as well as staging area for political rallies and demonstrations. History Gündoğdu Square is one of the city's new major squares. It was built together with the Kordon esplanade in 2000. Originally, the esplanade was built with the intention of extending a 6-lane highway from Liman Avenue (connecting to the D.300) to central Konak, where it would continue to the O-32, to Çeşme, in Balçova. Kordon, Ä°zmir
Alsancak is a neighbourhood in the municipality and district of Konak, İzmir Province, Turkey. Its population is 5,581 (2022). It is part of the historic center of the city of İzmir. Overview As a notional zone, Alsancak extends from along the tip of the southern shores of the Gulf of İzmir, starting near İzmir's historic square that carries the same name as the district (Konak Square) with the 19th century-built Pasaport Quay marking the point, and extending along a 3200-meter-long seaside street and promenade called "Kordon" (esplanade, or more specifically as Birinci Kordon, ) and to join the neighboring metropolitan district of Bornova, located eastwards and at the very end of the Gulf's waters. Balçova
Balçova is a municipality and district of İzmir Province, Turkey. Its area is 16 km2, and its population is 80,721 (2022). It covers the western part of the Greater Metropolitan Area of İzmir. Balçova is a fully urbanized at the rate of 100 percent. Balçova district area follows the southern coastline of the inner Gulf of İzmir, on the road to Çeşme and is at a distance of to the west from the traditional center of İzmir ( Konak), which it borders on the east. Konak Square () is a busy square at the southern end of Atatürk Avenue in the Konak district of İzmir, Turkey. The square is named after the '' Vali Konağı'' (Governor's Mansion) of İzmir Province, which is located here ('' konak'' means ''mansion'' in Turkish.) Taksim Square (, ), situated in Beyoğlu in the European part of Istanbul, Turkey, is a major tourist and leisure district famed for its restaurants, shops, and hotels. It is considered the heart of modern Istanbul, with the central station of the Istanbul Metro network. The Republic Protests () were a series of peaceful mass rallies that took place in Turkey in 2007 in support of a strict principle of state secularism. The first rally took place in Ankara on 14 April 2007, just two days before the start of the 2007 Turkish presidential election, presidential election process. The second one took place in Istanbul on 29 April. The third and fourth rallies took place consecutively in Manisa and Çanakkale on 5 May. The fifth rally took place in İzmir on 13 May. Ahmet PiriÅŸtina (8 April 1952 – 15 June 2004) was a Turkish politician who was Mayor of Ä°zmir from 1999 to 2004. He was of Albanian descent, his family was from the city of Prishtina. Çeşme
Çeşme, officially the Çeşme Municipality, is a municipality and Districts of Turkey, district of İzmir Province, Turkey. Its area is 285 km2, and its population is 48,924 (2022). It sits at Turkey's westernmost end, on a promontory on the tip of the peninsula that also carries the same name and that extends inland to form a whole with the wider Urla-Karaburun-Çeşme Peninsula.
