Gülbin Su
Gülbin Su (born 7 June 1971) is a Turkish Paralympic archer competing in the women's Compound bow event. Early years Gülbin Su was born to an Arab Alawite family in Samandağ district of Hatay Province on 7 June 1971. She is disabled due to her contraction with poliomyelitis at age of three. She graduated in Job Training from the Faculty of Education at Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University. She lives in Reyhanlı, Hatay, where she works as a painting teacher in an elementary school. Sporting career Su began with archery in 2002 by chance while she was waiting at a bus stop. She was contacted by the national team coach, who was passing by. The next day, she accepted the offer. Su debuted internationally in 2006. She competes with compound bow and shoots right-handed. In 2006, she took the silver medal at the 4th EPC Archery Championships held in Nymburk, Czech Republic. Mel Clarke
Mel Clarke (born 2 September 1982) is an English competitive archer. Personal life Clarke was born on 2 September 1982 in Norwich, Norfolk, England. Since the age of 11 she has used a wheelchair because of a dance she did, she landed on her knee and it paralysed her. In 2003 Lyme disease caused her to lose sight in one eye. Archery Clarke first tried archery as a member of the Girl Guides in 1998. She took part in her first international competition in 2002. In 2003, she became the first disabled archer from Europe to take part in an able-bodied event at international level, however it was during this event that she contracted Lyme disease. She lost sight in her aiming eye and had to remodel her shooting style to compensate, developing a stance with her head tilted back to make best use of her working eye. Handan Biroğlu (born 1 March 1981) is a Turkish female para-archer competing in the women's compound bow event. She represents her country at the 2016 Paralympics. Early life Handan Biroğlu was born in Erzincan, Turkey on 1 March 1981. She resides in Ankara. In 2001, she was paralyzed due to a spinal cord injury she sustained in a bus accident, and has since required the use of a wheelchair. Biroğlu became pregnant about a year after her accident. During her pregnancy, physicians advised her to abort due to her paraplegia and to her fetus' brain defect. However, she decided to give birth, risking her own life. Two years after her accident, she became the mother of a daughter. Six years after her daughter's birth, she and her husband separated. Biroğlu raised her daughter Nurdan alone in her father's home.
