Göran Wahlenberg
Georg (Göran) Wahlenberg (1 October 1780 – 22 March 1851) was a Sweden, Swedish natural history, naturalist. He was born in Filipstad Municipality, Kroppa, Värmland County. Wahlenberg matriculated at Uppsala University in 1792, received his doctorate in Medicine in 1806, was appointed ''botanices demonstrator'' in 1814, and professor of medicine and botany in 1829, succeeding Carl Peter Thunberg. He was the last holder of the undivided chair that in the previous century had been held by Carl Linnaeus, Linnaeus. After his death in 1851, the chair was divided into more delimited professorships, and botany became the main duty of the borgströmian professorship, at the time held by Elias Fries. Wahlenberg made his main work in the field of plant geography and published, among other things the ''Flora lapponica'' (1812) and other works on the plant world of northernmost Sweden. Filipstad Municipality (''Filipstads kommun'') is a municipality in Värmland County in west central Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Filipstad. The present municipality was created in 1971 when the City of Filipstad was merged with the rural municipalities of Kroppa, Rämmen and Värmlandsberg. Wahlenbergia
''Wahlenbergia'' is a genus of around 260 species of flowering plants in the family Campanulaceae. Plants in this genus are perennial or annual herbs with simple leaves and blue to purple bell-shaped flowers, usually with five petals lobes. Species of ''Wahlenbergia'' are found on all continents except North America, and on some isolated islands, but the greatest diversity occurs in the Southern Hemisphere. Description Plants in the genus ''Wahlenbergia'' are annual or perennial herbs, rarely shrubs, and sometimes have rhizomes. The stems are erect, circular in cross section and have simple leaves. The leaves decrease in size up the stem and usually have small scattered teeth on their edges. The flowers are borne on the end of the stems, either singly or arranged in a cyme. Wahlenbergfjord
Wahlenbergfjorden, sometimes known in English as Waalenburg Bay, is a fjord on the southwest coast of the Arctic island of Nordaustlandet, in Norway's Svalbard archipelago. At in length, and wide, it is the fifth longest fjord in the archipelago, and the longest on the island. The fjord separates Gustav V Land in the north from Gustav Adolf Land in the south, at geographical co-ordinates . Its mouth faces Spitsbergen across Hinlopen Strait, the strait separating the two islands. The fjord is named for the Swedish naturalist Göran Wahlenberg (1780-1851) and has been known by this name since at least the early 1930s. The glacier of Wahlenbergbreen in Oscar II Land, Spitsbergen, is also named for him. ''Luzula wahlenbergii'', commonly known as Wahlenberg's woodrush or reindeer wood-rush, is a perennial species of plant in the genus ''Luzula'' of the (rush) family Juncaceae. Taxonomy and naming ''Luzula wahlenbergii'' is in the section ''Diprophyllatae'' of the genus ''Luzula ''of the (rush) family Juncaceae. ''L. wahlenbergii'' was first formally described by the Austro-Russian botanist Franz Josef Ruprecht in 1845. With regards to the etymology of the binomial: the generic name ''Luzula'' could come from the Italian '' lucciola'' ("to shine, sparkle") or the Latin '' luzulae'' or '' luxulae'', from '' lux'' ("light"), inspired by the way the plant's hairs sparkle when wet with dew. Another etymology sometimes given is that it does derive from lucciola but that this meant a midsummerfield, or from the Latin luculus, meaning a small place; the same source also states that this name was applied by Luigi Anguillara (an Italian botanist) in 1561.
