Gérson Bergher
Gérson Bergher (April 9, 1925 – May 30, 2016) was a Brazilian politician. Bergher, the former President of the Brazilian Zionist Organization, was one of Brazil's most prominent Jewish politicians and activists. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro, the Legislative Assembly of Guanabara (state), Guanabara, and the Municipal Chamber of Rio de Janeiro, the city's legislative council. In 2014, Bergher won his most recent re-election to the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro. According to reports, Bergher entered politics following the advice and encouragement of Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro, Legislative Assembly of the state of Rio de Janeiro (state), Rio de Janeiro in 1960. Botafogo (local/standard alternative Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation: ) is a beachfront neighborhood (''bairro'') in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is a mostly upper middle class and small commerce community, and is located between the hills of Mundo Novo, Dona Marta (which separates it from Laranjeiras) and São João (which separates it from Copacabana). The word Botafogo also refers to a Latin American ballroom dance move, named so because the area of Botafogo is where it originated.
