Lucecita Benítez
Luz Esther Benítez Rosado (born July 22, 1942), also known as Lucecita, is a Puerto Rican singer, part of the country's new wave popular music. Born in Bayamon, a large city in Puerto Rico, she participated in amateur radio shows. Benítez's most important career step came in 1969, when she won the ''Festival de la Cancion Latina'' (''Festival of the Latin Song'') in Mexico. She participated with two songs, "Génesis" by G.V. Lloveras and "Energía de mis manos", by M. de Jesús. "Genesis" received the highest points (223) in the festival and Lucecita also won as best dressed performer. Pedro Rivera Toledo's arrangement of Genesis also won as the best arrangement, although the orchestra was conducted by Jose S. Marroquin. Bolero
Bolero is a genre of song which originated in eastern Cuba in the late 19th century as part of the trova tradition. Unrelated to the older Spanish dance of the same name, bolero is characterized by sophisticated lyrics dealing with love. It has been called the "quintessential Latin American romantic song of the twentieth century". Unlike the simpler, thematically diverse ''canción'', bolero did not stem directly from the European lyrical tradition, which included Italian opera and canzone, popular in urban centers like Havana at the time. Instead, it was born as a form of romantic folk poetry cultivated by a new breed of troubadour from Santiago de Cuba, the ''trovadores''. Pepe Sánchez is considered the father of this movement and the author of the first bolero, "Tristezas", written in 1883. Originally, boleros were sung by individual ''trovadores'' while playing guitar. Over time, it became common for trovadores to play in groups as ''dúos'', ''tríos'', ''cuartetos'', etc ... Guillermo Segundo Venegas Lloveras ( Quebradillas, Puerto Rico October 12, 1915 – San Juan, Puerto Rico July 23, 1993) was a Puerto Rican songwriter. After success in his youth with popular boleros, waltzes, tangos, marches, and danzas, in later life he returned to classical music Classical music generally refers to the art music of the Western world, considered to be distinct from Western folk music or popular music traditions. Latin music (Portuguese and es, música latina) is a term used by the music industry as a catch-all category for various styles of music from Ibero-America (including Spain and Portugal) and the Latino United States inspired by Latin American, Spanish and Portuguese music genres, as well as music that is sung in either Spanish and/or Portuguese. Mary Ann Acevedo Rivera (; born June 23, 1987), better known as Mary Ann, is a Puerto Rican people, Puerto Rican singer and songwriter. She is known for being a contestant on the Objetivo Fama (Third Season), third season of ''Objetivo Fama'' (2006) and the Idol Puerto Rico (season 1), first season of ''Idol Puerto Rico'' (2011). After her stint on ''Objetivo Fama'', Acevedo was the first contestant of that season to release an album. Life and music career Biography Mary Ann was born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, on June 23, 1987. She is the daughter of Ana M. Rivera Colón and Jesús Acevedo; and sister of Keitha Acevedo and Jesús Manuel Acevedo.
