War (originally called Eric Burdon and War) is an American funk/rock/soul band from Long Beach, California, known for several hit songs (including "Spill the Wine", "The World Is a Ghetto", "The Cisco Kid", " Why Can't We Be Friends?", "Low Rider", and " Summer"). Formed in 1969, War is a musical crossover band that fuses elements of rock, funk, jazz, Latin, rhythm and blues, psychedelia, and reggae. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015. ''Deliver the Word'' is the sixth album by War, released in 1973 on United Artists Records. Reception The album featured two singles, " Gypsy Man" (severely truncated from the 11 minute album version) backed with "Deliver the Word" (US #8), and "Me and Baby Brother" backed with "In Your Eyes" (US #15). A live version of "Me and Baby Brother" had been released previously on ''All Day Music'' (1971). The title "H2Overture" is a pun on H2O, the chemical formula for water. A 4-channel surround sound (quadraphonic) mix was also released for the album in the 8-track tape format (United Artists UA-DA128-H), featuring a different track order, a reprise of "H2Overture" with early fade-out, and an early fade-out of "Gypsy Man". It is the first song on their 1972 album ''The World Is a Ghetto'', and is the group's highest-charting song on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, peaking at number two. Song description The song describes the adventures of Cisco and Pancho, two cowboys from the 1950s TV program ''The Cisco Kid''. The song is known for having a different sequence of notes following each line.
