Gymkata
''Gymkata'' is a 1985 martial arts film directed by Robert Clouse, based on Dan Tyler Moore's 1956 short story ''The Terrible Game''. It stars Olympic gymnast Kurt Thomas as Jonathan Cabot, an Olympic gymnast who combines his gymnastic ability with martial arts to enter a deadly competition in a fictional country, Parmistan. Plot Jonathan Cabot (Thomas) is approached by the Special Intelligence Agency (SIA) to play "the Game". The Game is an athletic competition in the fictional country of Parmistan, a tiny mountain nation which is supposedly located in the Hindu Kush mountain range. Parmistan forces all foreigners to play the Game, which is basically an endurance race with obstacles, all the while being chased by local Parmistan warriors. If a person wins, then they are granted their life and a wish. Robert Clouse
Robert Clouse (March 6, 1928 – February 4, 1997) was an American film director and producer, known primarily for his work in the action/adventure and martial arts genres. He died on February 4, 1997, in Oregon of kidney failure. Clouse directed Bruce Lee in Lee's second English-speaking film starring role (the other being ''Marlowe''), 1973's ''Enter the Dragon''. After Lee's death, Clouse completed Lee's final film ''The Game of Death'' and released it as ''Game of Death'' in 1978 with a new storyline and cast. Dan Tyler Moore Jr. was an American intelligence officer, SEC regional commissioner, businessman, public speaker, and author. Though involved in many fields and careers during his lifetime, he is perhaps best remembered today for his 1957 pulp novel ''The Terrible Game,'' which served as the basis for the 1985 cult film ''Gymkata''. Kurt Bilteaux Thomas (March 29, 1956June 5, 2020) was an American Olympic gymnast and part-time actor. In 1978, he became the first American male gymnast to win a gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships (world championships). In 1979, he won six medals at the world championship, setting the record for most medals won at a single world championship by an American gymnast, a feat matched only by Simone Biles in 2018. Conan Lee Yuen-Ba 李元霸 (born Lloyd Hutchinson; 1959), is a Hong Kong-born American film actor and martial artist. Early life Conan Lee was born in Hong Kong, but grew up in Queens, New York as Lloyd Hutchinson. During this period he was trained in his father's self-defense methods. is a Japanese American martial artist and actor. Early life Tadashi Yamashita was born in Japan in 1942, but he considers himself an Okinawan. His father died when he was three and he and his mother moved to Okinawa when he was 8, after the second world war. He began martial arts at 11. Yamashita was awarded his black belt when he was 16. He captured the All-Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Free Sparring Grand Championship Title in 1960. He visited Japan in 1968 and tested before Shugoro Nakazato and Chosin Chibana. He lived in Okinawa until in 1966 he came to the USA where he became a citizen. Vahe "Buck" Kartalian (August 13, 1922 – May 24, 2016) was an American professional wrestler and character actor. Biography Vahe Kartalian was born on August 13, 1922, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Armenian immigrants. He had four sisters and one brother. When Kartalian was two, their family moved to New York City. His father, a baker, died when he was 11. During World War II, Kartalian served in the United States Navy on a destroyer in the Pacific theatre. ''Mystery Science Theater 3000'' (abbreviated as ''MST3K'') is an American science fiction comedy film review television series created by Joel Hodgson. The show premiered on KTMA-TV (now WUCW) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on November 24, 1988. It then moved to nationwide broadcast, first on The Comedy Channel/Comedy Central for seven seasons until its cancellation in 1996. Thereafter, it was picked up by The Sci-Fi Channel and aired for three more seasons until another cancellation in August 1999.
