Gwyneth Philips
Gwyneth Philips (born August 17, 2000) is an American ice hockey goaltender and member of the United States women's national ice hockey team. She was drafted 14th overall by PWHL Ottawa in the 2024 PWHL draft. She played college ice hockey at Northeastern was named the WHCA National Goalie of the Year in 2023. Early life Philips attended Shady Side Academy where she played ice hockey and lacrosse. She won the Women's Interscholastic Hockey League of the Mid-Atlantic (WIHLMA) Championship in 2016, 2017 and 2019. She was named First-Team All-WIHLMA in 2015, 2016 and 2019. College career Philips began her collegiate career for Northeastern during the 2019–20 season. During her freshman year she appeared in seven games, and posted a 5–0–0 record with three shutouts. She recorded three shutouts in her first three career games. She served as the backup goaltender for Aerin Frankel her first three years at Northeastern. Aerin Frankel
Aerin Frankel is an American ice hockey goaltender as a member of the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) and the United States women's national ice hockey team. She was one of the best goaltenders in women's NCAA history and is a highly promising prospect for the American national team. She won the Patty Kazmaier Award in 2021. She is a two-time recipient of the WHCA National Goalie of the Year award and was the inaugural winner in 2021. In 2023, Frankel won gold with the United States women's national ice hockey team at the 2023 IIHF Women's World Championship in Brampton, Ontario. Hockey East
The Hockey East Association, also known as Hockey East, is a college ice hockey conference which operates entirely in New England. It participates in the NCAA's Division I as a hockey-only conference. Hockey East came into existence in 1984 for men's hockey when most of its current members split from what is today known as ECAC Hockey, after disagreements with the Ivy League members. The women's league, the WHEA, began play in 2002. On October 5, 2011, the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish (an ACC member outside football) announced they would be joining Hockey East as the conference's first non-New England school in 2013 after the CCHA folded. Patty Kazmaier Award
The Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award is given to the top female college ice hockey player in the United States. The award is presented during the women's annual ice hockey championship, the Frozen Four. The award was first presented in 1998. The award is named in honor of the late Patty Kazmaier-Sandt, a four-year varsity letter winner and All Ivy League honoree for the Princeton University women's ice hockey team from 1981 through 1986. She also played field hockey and lacrosse. She died on February 15, 1990 at the age of 28 from a rare blood disease. Patty was the daughter of Heisman Trophy winner Dick Kazmaier.
